Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

One of my all-time favourite songs growing up in the 80's when I was a teenager, was this fantastic Thomas Dolby creation:

SCIENCE!

Fascinating technology of the time.
A whole STUDIO of electronic stuff, to produce the sounds that we probably can now do with a PicoMite for five bucks.

Didn't do anything for me because I'd already seen Kraftwerk live

Excellent stuff! I really enjoyed that. Many happy memories of watching Magnus Pyke. lol He might have acted the idiot but he was a very clever bloke.

Saw the thread title and the song was the first thing that popped into my head!
Knew the artists name, the rhythm of the song and took me back to that much better time in life.

Few Weeks ago I was in the store daughter was managing and saw some Keyboards. Been procrastinating  about getting one for a while and looking at vids trying to get some understanding.
Grabbed A launchkey Midi controller and said Owmuchizit and pleased with her staff Discount, said wrap it up. Even at full tilt the capabilities of this thing that looks like a toy is Mind blowing.

You know how to work it and I very much doubt there isn't a thing you couldn't do with this unit that would have cost a Million bux for the gear 30 years ago and so much more.

Amazing little thing. Music is not written as much now as it is constructed.
lay down a beat on the drum pads and build in the infinite range of sounds you want from there.

If you want to re create a sound that was done on a Juno or an Obenheim from the 70's, 80s or whatever, No longer do you have to own that valuable and rare synth, you just download the patch for that unit, select the sound, tweak it with any sub board  you want to put on so you can make a thousand sounds the original never had and go from there.

You want to play some Mad riff like Van Halen's  " Jump"  No probs, find a vid that tells you the patch, install it and off you go. And sound you want from any keyboard/ Synth or any other instrument you want, all good, get a software pack  and you are there.

I think I'm Kidding myself. I don't have the smarts to knock out more than mary had a Little Lamb on this thing but by god when I do, it's going to have the Fattest bass and the richest strings you ever head with a Rocking drum loop.

Time I'm 195 years old, I bet I'll be half decent with it.

This is one of my favourite covers from a classic. A whole bands worth of instruments assembled and shows how so many sounds and effects can be tied in together and laid down together to create the song.

I got the gear, Now all I am missing is gross amounts of Talent and Knowledge.  :0(
