Hi!

I'm wondering if it could be possible to build a MMBackPack using a RPi Pico? In this case, would MMBackPack documentation apply to the RPi Pico-based BackPack?

What are the differences between MicroMite and PicoMite? Do firmwares evolve at the same rate?

Thanks,
Frédéric

The two devices are completely different apart from the fact that they both run MMBasic. :)  The versions are a bit different though as the Micromite has a lot more limitations. You would need the standard PicoMite documentation for MMBasic.

I did a backpack design for a PicoMite some time ago. I think you'll find it if you follow the link in my sig.
I've been working on a slight update to it if you are interested. I can't remember offhand whether I've published anything about it yet.

What would you want this backpack to do? A number of people have posted PCBs for the PicoMite.

The idea is to have a small RP2040-based platform to prototype, with a screen and maybe a few buttons, a battery (+charger), and a speaker, which could run Micropython or MMBasic, and be able to run MMBasic examples written for the MMBackPack...

I guess only inits should match the board (pins to LCD)?

I found your design, thanks!

What you described sounds a bit like Toms GameMite design. Screen, a few buttons, speaker (but mono), battery & charger. It's designed for MMBasic, but I suppose you could put Micropython if you mess about enough. It also has a little GPIO port to give a few IO.

I haven't done a design with screen and battery so far, mostly because it means buying batteries. :)

I've found my version 1.2 of the backpack board. As I said, it adds a few features and tidies up some problems on the original. I didn't do a manual and BOM for it though, although I have a circuit diagram.

I was also going to say it sounds like you might want to consider a Game*Mite. @bigmik and I tried to make the GPIO accessible and  I know that @Volhout has been making use of his beyond it's original gaming purpose.

Best wishes,

Tom
