Unfortunately my back shed allocation will be reduced dramatically in size, so I will have to say goodbye to my hoard of electronics. I have thousands of items including new old stock and display systems from an IT business I ran in the mid 1990's so there is plenty of retro computer hardware available including hundreds of cables and adaptors and computer hardware. I have many examples of MMBasic controllers since the Micromite, tools workstations and the like.  Here is a small part of the current workshop which does not include the storage area. I know the feeling.... Having recently moved house, my new office/workshop is half the size of the old one, but I managed to squeeze in quite a lot despite that fact!   Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Hi Grogster, That is to small to do some serious work (except drink Haagen beer). Where are the shelves with parts ? Relying on JLC storage ? Replace the pink shelves with something that reaches to the ceiling, and stock it with items. (my wife calls these items "idea's". And someone should never run out of idea's). Hi OA47, Too bad you have to scale down. But getting rid of some of the old stuff is needed sometimes. Make sure you check the retro stuff online before binning it. Hi Grogster, Well, you do not need more shelves in the other office. I envy you. Everything well organized in boxes, shelved. Appart from the (many) projects on the bench that clutter the benches a bit, your "backshed" looks very workable. Lucky you... I am in 5m2, together with 2 fridges, and 4 model airplanes. @Grogster: How DARE you be so organized! I'm so disappointed in you! ;) @Volhout: 5m2? You were lucky! When I were a lad there was 8 of us sat in the mud round a 1ft square stool and we had to share the soldering iron - and the charcoal burner to heat it in! I'm not sure I should reveal my current workspace. Enough to say that the more or less uncluttered area is 13" x 7" on a small table in the living room. Component and tool storage is elsewhere (most components are in either a different room or the shed). The soldering station is on the floor by my feet and the monitor takes up the full width of the table towards the back. I like the stylish rainbows of croc clip leads gracefully draped over the testgear. :) At one time I kept mine clipped onto wire clothes hangers. Well, as to the organization, I had to move everything, so it gave me the chance to organize it all as I went. The benches ARE indeed a mess at the moment, as I am still sorting a mixture of work-related jobs, and stuff I have just dumped there cos I had to put it somewhere! The sorting continues.... I have found around 100 modems, ISA internal, PCI internal and external units. They are in a box destined for E-waste. Has anyone found any repurpose for these dinosaurs before they go? OA47 |

OA47 eh mate with that much of the good old stuff how about having a bit of fun and get the gold out of the old gear. It is a long process but if you have time on your side it can be a bit of fun and with that much E-waste the end result should give a nice size gold button.  These days it costs to get rid of E-waste so why not turn it around and grab a nice little return. |
