Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

This may seem daft but watch the video.
if the usb stick or the cable simulates a keyboard why not a rpipico usb to detect a keyboard. it wouldn't detect a usb memory stick.. so if it detects a kb then it's bogus??

Do you mean connect the suspect USB stick to a pico to see if it comes up as a kb?

And if it does then don't connect to a PC?

Sounds sane. Might not work if a fake stick can tell it's not connected to a PC so it decides not to be a kb - but I don't know if that's possible.

I think it uses say win or linux but says it will find os.
if it sets up as hid then pico might see it as a keyboard, not connected usb mem to picousb as maybe damage.

A friend of mine once saw a mouse at a security training course many years ago that started coding as soon as the light was switched off. Only then did it register as a keyboard and program viruses...

sounds like what we need is a means to tell the operating system to exclude any keyboards other than those plugged into a specific USB port. after all, once set up how often do you want to move your wired or wireless keyboard from one USB port to another?

cheers,
rob   :-)

Want a secure system? Run a Nascom 2 with no outside access. :)
I doesn't do anything, but isn't that a small price to pay for security?

I have very fond memories of the COSMAC (1802)   . It is like a Altair, keying in the bootloader every single time you power on.
