Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Quote  I have to redesign the board due the wrong assignement of the I2S signals,

What is the issue with I2S. The next release of the firmware will allow any pins to be used as long as all three pins are in the range GP0-GP31 or GP16-GP47

You are the only person reporting that the hub didn't work with R54 and R55 removed. Do you have another board you can try with just this mod?
Please can you confirm the batch number of the CH334F - probably 13122E20 which are the bad ones. 1163FD43 are the good ones

Yes I have the 13122E20 ones.  I have plenty of spares I'll try again with a fresh board and Pico

8Mbyte DRAM (not PSRAM). Are you using PIO to drive it ?

Volhout

I also included an 8 MB DRAM for testing. The idea is to use it in the future as a video frame buffer, obviously driven by the PIO.

I just realised I made a mistake and removed R56 and R55. But left R54 in.  I have now removed R54 from the first board I built and it works with 2 out of my 3 keyboards.

I did put together another board and it also failed.  Came good when I removed R54 and R55.  Still only 2 out of 3 keyboards work.

For the keyboard that does not work I sometimes get "Error: Invalid address - resetting" flash up for a second then it resets to just the > prompt. The same keyboard works fine with an OTG connector.

At work we've been using the FE2.1 as a USB Hub.  It seems to be quite reliable.

Unless something has changed in the later revisions of the firmware, be careful of the FE2.1 as it won’t work with the MMBasic USB Pico.

I have used the FE1.1 with success.

Have you successfully used an FE2.1 with a PicoUSB?

The little module I've been using is the FE1.1. I've not had any problems with that so far. It lacks bells and whistles, but I don't mind that. The main problem in using it is the insane footprint of the pads!

I wouldn't condemn the CH334 though. I think we've probably just been unlucky. It's quite possible that LCSC has been fleeced by unknowingly buying in faulty or even fake chips. It does happen on an industrial scale, not just small orders.

Hello,

Are there no other hub controllers? I do not trust china at all. Money isn't the problem. I seek for quality... I would design my own boards as usually. Do you have any suggestions for good quality ones excluding china?

Greetings

No we actually use the RP2040 on the peripheral side of the FE2.1 running Arduino code.

I think we chose it because of the number of ports it can support.  We are doing a redesign at the moment, I'll let you know if we find something better.
