Through that I have discovered mmbasic and yesterday I have also ordered a maximite color 2 While waiting for both units i am looking for learning from you all by reading these posts . I am sure I will also have many questions, now i know where to ask them. Thank you for allowing to join! I cant wait to get into basic again after first learning it on an abc 80, then ti 99 and c64. And of course I will also do my very best to contribute as soon as i can. First however it is to learn Edited 2025-04-27 23:44 by Gadgetguy |

Hello @Gadgetguy. Welcome onboard! Whilst you are waiting for your "toys" you might like to experiment with: MMBasic for Windows (.zip download) or: MMBasic for Linux (github) Best wishes, Tom MMBasic for Linux, Game*Mite, CMM2 Welcome Tape, Creaky old text adventures |

Thank you Tom for the welcome, will try the windows version, super good recommendation! I also have a question. I have a logitech k400 keyboard (wireless). Would you know please of that will work with the Maximite? Do I still need a separate mouse or will the touch pad of the k400 work? Thank you! Edited 2025-04-28 02:38 by Gadgetguy |

Because of limitations in the STM USB stack the CMM2 doesn't support either composite devices or USB hubs - just simple USB keyboards. I'm afraid your keyboard almost certainly won't work. I use a Lenovo KU-0225. You then need a PS2 compatible mouse such as the Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0. Edited 2025-04-28 03:03 by matherp |

Thank you for the reply. I guess I will have to buy a new keyboard then. Any recommendations for a low cost compact keyboard (so without number pad)? Thank you! https://amzn.eu/d/iB6AXCR would something like this work for example ? Edited 2025-04-28 07:16 by Gadgetguy |

Hi, and welcome! It's not easy to know if a particular keyboard will work on a CMM2. It has a USB socket but will only accept PS2 keyboards. It didn't used to be a problem because when USB keyboards first appeared they also supported PS2 so that they could be used with an adapter to fit a PS2 socket. Many cheap Chinese keyboards have kept this compatibility and will work fine, but some will not. Many modern USB keyboards have dropped PS2 compatibility completely as PCs no longer have PS2 sockets. Mice are just as bad. The Microsoft mouse is one of the best PS2 compatible ones. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Completely wrong - please don't post incorrect advice. The CMM2 supports true USB keyboards. It doesn't support Keyboards with an in-built USB hub or USB composite devices. The mouse port is PS2 as I advise above |

I apologise. I, obviously incorrectly, understood that it was using PS2 protocol for the keyboard as well as the mouse. I knew that any USB system on it must be limited. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Thank you so much for trying to help. I will wait for the Maximite to arrive and then buy keyboard and mouse. And if it does not work - well it just goes back to Amazon :) Edited 2025-04-28 20:28 by Gadgetguy |

For reference, any keyboard with variable backlit keys, a USB port, or any sort of pointing device like a trackpad won't work. There is a list of known good keyboards in the manual page 11. |

Thank you. The manual says the logitech k400 works. But you say it does not. So does it? (I do understand that the trackpad will not work) Edited 2025-04-28 21:34 by Gadgetguy |

When you said touchpad it immediately raised a red flag with me. However, if it is in the manual then I assume someone has reported it working - certainly worth trying. If it doesn't work then please let me know so the manual can be corrected. |

Hi, I just tried my K400Plus keyboard with the latest version of CMM2 and can confirm that the keyboard works using one of Logitech's "Unifying" dongles. I did not try the touchpad as I hardly use it even on other devices, a mouse is much more to my liking. |

Welcome to the wonderful world of MMBasic! I have used the following three keyboards with the CMM2 with no problems at all. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00NMCICOY?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_13&th=1 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08F3WBFP1?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1 As Peter (matherp) mentioned, if you have a normal USB keyboard without extra USB ports you should be good. I also have a keyboard with lights under the keys, and that sometimes doesn't work well (hit or miss), so I would avoid lit keyboards just to be safe. |
