Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

There was recently an update to Thunderbird and now the Toolbar above the message pane with REPLY DELETE ARCHIVE etc is gone. I have searched the web and nothing I do will bring it back.

It used to on mine too but a recent update in the last day or so and it is gone.
Betterbird which is an offshoot of Thunderbird  V 115.19.0-bb37  (64 bit)
Maybe Thunderbird is different but there were a lot of posts on the web saying it was gone.

i have just upgraded my thunderbird to 128.10.1esr (64-bit)

The program has the same stuff on the screen as always.
I use Ubuntu, maybe that is different to what operating system you have

but the Reply, delete and archive options are still there on my Thunderbird.
Maybe Betterbird lost some of their tail feathers

Lately, I have been having more and more issues with TB.
It's not so much a bird any more, but a full grown Eagle.(IE: it's a HUGE program now)

I don't recommend any of my clients use it.  You tend to have very little trouble, if you just use webmail.  I've already put at least a couple of people onto webmail, and taken them off of TB, for EXACTLY these kinds of strange things like buttons vanishing for no apparent reason, and links being unclickable.  No amount of tinkering with the settings helps, and questions on the TB forums go unanswered, so I am not even sure if the people administering to TB these days, even know what the hell is going on.

Rant, rant, rant, rant......

I can add these buttons by configuring the menu bar. Right click on it.

I'm using 115.18.0
I have the same impression, that Thunderbird and Firefox going ways I don't like at all.

I used to use Google Mail, but quite some time ago they changed their interface. The new version ran like a slug on my machine for some reason (it was virtually unusable) so I changed back to the old version until they finally dropped that completely.

I was lucky to find Mailbird doing a very cheap multi-account lifetime version for single users (they still do a free version but it's now only a single account) so I promptly bit their hand off and I've been using that ever since. I've not found any reason to look elsewhere since as it seems to do just about everything I want. :)

My email use goes back before the Internet so I have used a lot of applications over the years.

I believe I started using Thunderbird on Windows 7, and Fedora Linux ~9. It has always been a great email / calendar system. Used to be an Outlook power user at work (because of heavy dependence/customization/integration of Outlook at work). I will never go back to Outlook. Tried Yahoo and Google mail and dumped pretty quick. I am not a fan of some corporation's email system.

I have been doing all my email and calendar work with Thunderbird on Fedora/Plasma for about 10 years.

There was a hiccup with Thunderbird a few years ago when it changed the interface for add-ons. For me it caused a change in how encryped email worked but got fixed. I have my UI slightly modified to my liking and rarely need to touch it after major upgrades.
