Several test videos work fine, others, all I get is sound and a blank screen.
I guess this is a missing video CODEC issue.

Is there any way to update the PI5 to all known CODEC's?
Happy to play with the terminal for this.
Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!

vlc player is pretty comprehensive.

There used to be a codec pack, I'm sure.  I wouldn't know where to look for it now.
