Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Proper VGA cable has individual screened cores for the colour signals, so as a minimum you have three GND conductors. What you can get away with depends on the connections at both ends and the cable length.

If at all possible I would try to fit a standard VGA connector. It leaves your options open for any leads then.

I can assure you though that a RJ45 8-pin connector works well for VGA. In fact, you can get VGA-RJ45 adapters ready made. There is a sort of standard connection:

RJ45           VGA
1  -  OR/WH  - Red gnd
2  -  OR     - Red
3  -  GN/WH  - Blue gnd
4  -  BU     - Green
5  -  BU/WH  - Green gnd
6  -  GN     - Blue
7  -  BN/WH  - HSYNC
8  -  BN     - VSYNC

VGA over CAT5 works remarkably well and I've run it over 5m or so.

If you connect it like this it is the default and it will give you immediately a picture . With OPTION VGA PINS you can have a individual setup.
If you use the default it will not be shown with OPTION LIST
