Hi All,

It has been a while.but can someone please show me where I can grab MMB4W from?

I have set up a new PC and the one I have on the old one just runs (MMBASIC.EXE) when I copy that file to the new w11 PC I get the following:

Windows blue box explaining (You really dont want to run this as we didnt write it BS -- Actually windows protected your PC error)

Then when I force it to run I get VCRUNTIME.DLL missing

Then after clicking OK I get MSVCP14.DLL missing.

Does MMB4W need to be installed?

Regards,

Mick

Hi Mick,
This page on FotS points to latest I know of and also the manual.
I have it on Win11 but can't remember anything about the missing DLLs

Regards
Gerry

Most of the time, some other program would have installed the VC runtime package by the time you get around to installing MMB4W

I think you need to install:
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

Hi all,

@Jim,
I loaded that vc redistribution and it said it installed however still the same result. Even after a restart in case it needed it.

@Gerry,
I haven’t yet got the file from fots but I tried the one that works on my main PC to no avail.

Tomorrow I will try again.

My main pc is w11, MMB4w works on that, the new box is a Geekom airlite12 150.  A low powered gen 12 intel mini (like a NUC) pc.

Mick

Hi All,

I have installed and uninstalled the VC_Redist pack and even downloaded from the M$ site, to no avail.

I still get the VCRUNTIME.DLL missing error

and

MSVCP14.DLL missing error

Windows defender has finally let MMB4W `load' without the blue box where I had to say "yes I am sure run the bloody program"

This is weird, It is more or less a fully clean windows install.

I searched for MSVCP14.DLL on my PC and found the DLL in at least 8 places (marked in RED on below screen cap) and many more derivatives of it on the PC

A search for VCRUNTIME.DLL shows 8 locations with the file and many more derivatives of it.

This is rather frustrating as it is to replace a failing 24/7 mini PC and I have it all set and working as I want except MMB4W where I run a program to monitor my weather station.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have rebooted many times after installing the VC_redist package so it isnt that.

Regards,

Mick

*** EDIT,

Added a zip of above image as it is unreadable after the forum compresses it.

MSVC.zip

Mick I just went to the FOTS link and downloaded the B23  zip file Peter uploaded in the thread, yes windows said don't run so clicked on run anyway and next thing it worked

I typed in "list" in the dos box and the reply was "nothing to list" so it did work.

Now I am using win10 too.

Cheers Bryan

Hy Bryan,

Yes that was the first issue/PiTa, but windows eventually decided that it would allow me to run MMB4W without me having to say "pretty please" each time.

Its just that MMB4W will not run on my new W11 PC. I get the following error on running MMB4W

After clicking OK I get this error

Apologies for the bad quality, I couldnt screen capture as I run it through a VNC program so they are phone captures

Regards,

Mick

*** EDIT

Sorry the images are the wrong order, I get the second image error first then the first error image

MMB4W beta24 is here
https://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ViewTopic.php?TID=16422&PID=218427#218427#218424
It shouldn't need any other files to run.

Hi Mick sorry I can't help with win11 at all, I do have 3 computers here all with win10 on and only my laptop says it is win11 ready.

Even when support for win10 ends I will keep using it as after all it was less than a year ago I did start using windows again then they decided to end the life of it.

Here is a silly idea have you installed MMEdit on this computer as it may be the key or like usual I'm just on the wrong track.

I have used a win11 computer once and for me that was enough

MMEdit doesn't use VC runtime so that is no help.

I am trying to find something useful that does but no luck so far.

What sore of processor does the new box use?
Hopefully Intel

Hi Mick,

It needs the 32bit runtime.

Hi All,

Thank you for all the advice, Gerry hit the nail on the head, MMB4W must need the 32bit runtime.

I now have MMB4W running.

More testing now but for now I am happy.

Thanks again all, especially Gerry.

Regards,

Mick (the big one)
