Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Lot of linux fans. I broke windows, screen went black but cursor and bleeps.
Turn on of and it says welcome then black screen when it should show the desktop....
so install Linux mint 22.3 cinnamon first to usb stick then alter bios to boot from stick and when it settles down install it to pc, got usb with linux boot just got to try booting on a pc... that had windows but doubt I'll fix windows and my experience with rpi 400 has been better than I thought

I think I tried Fydeos and didn't work on rpi. I tried Twisteros 64 bit and it's not like Twisteros 32 bit, well not yet. Rpi Trixie is pretty good.
Now I got to install mint on a win pc from usb.
let you know if it works.

How about posting exactly what you did and where it didn't work?  A 1-line post is pointless.

The problem probably isn't with Linux, it's in understanding Etcher. Once you have the iso file on the USB stick it's just like installing from disk except that you have to boot from the stick. That's the bit that can get interesting on some machines.

I had a problem with one of the later versions of Etcher. I couldn't find out how to get it to do what I wanted. Help via the internet always referred to a different version.

In the end I used Rufus. It's far easier to use than Etcher IMHO. The end result is the same.

Indeed.

That's like saying: "It did not work, so Linux now sucks..."

I've been running LMDE6(Linux Mint Debian Edition v6) since October last year when the W10 updates ended.  I had ZERO issue installing and running LMDE6, so you are not doing something right, and as JohnS said.......

It may depend on the linux distro you want to install on the USB stick.
I think Rufus and Balena Etcher both assume UEFI installations.
Some older distro's (i.e. Puppy) may not work when using Balena. For older Puppies I needed to use Unetbootin.
