Some time ago, the original Apple II source code for *Prince of Persia* was released. Prince of Persia 6502 Source Code Since so many BBC programs are being converted to MMBasic right now, this would be a prime candidate. 'no comment |

Hi Martin, Since Apple 2 video and especially sound are completely different from BBC, this would be a separate challenge. But "who knows" what AI all can do... Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

Of course, that's a completely different system, but isn't the Picomite also quite different from the BBC? Well, reworking the graphics, creating sprite sheets and tile sheets, and generating sounds would be the least complicated challenge for me. But translating 6502 source code into MMBasic is way beyond my capabilities. In addition, it appears that a BBC adaptation of Prince of Persia has already been made. I've been fiddling with a few pixels again. A few more Impressions in RGB 121 to see what it might look like in Mode 2 ![]() ![]() ![]() I also found a version already adapted for the BBC:BBC Fan Rebuild Source Code Edited 2026-09-20 23:47 by Martin H. 'no comment |

I'll post a version of the game for the PC3 later today or tomorrow. The original is another masterpiece of coding. Every bit is used for different characteristics and working out exactly what each does in every scene is proving challenging. I've played through level 1 so far as a test and now trying to work through every level to make sure they can all be solved. The master version appears to completely ignore copyright issues including music/vgm/ is Sega Master System music by Matt Furniss — the SMS port's commercial soundtrack, ripped. Not Mechner's, not ours, and not licensed to anyone here. ip/vgm/ and sfx/vgm/ are original compositions by @inversephase, written for pop-beeb. Neither is Apple II material. Taking either would be lifting a third party's work. What I will post will be an engine and a python script that takes Mechner's repo and generates the game resources locally. That way what I post won't risk any copyright or intellectual property issues. Edited 2026-09-21 00:07 by matherp |

That sounds like a clever, save way to do it, and it shouldn't cause any copyright issues. Edited 2026-09-21 00:52 by Martin H. 'no comment |
