There is the SOMO-II module from 4D Systems: SOMO-II This module is relatively cheap, stereo line-out or mono amp on-board, serial control, button control, standard MP3 files etc. I have three of these, but have not found the time to play with them yet - your thread has given me a prod in that department, but there never seems to be enough hours at the weekend!!!!! Those links would not work for me either, but I figured it was probably something at my end of things. EDIT: Ignore - TassyJim posted working links about the same time I was posting the above! ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I have about 20 of the $6 modules, but then along came the SOMO-II. While quite a bit more expensive then the $6 units, the 4D unit natively supports MP3 and UART serial control, so no need to bit-bang the data to a $6 unco-operative module, also no need to convert file formats. Sometimes, the cheapest option is not always the best!!! ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

The 4D Systems SOMO-2 module has more commands, but for the price, that MDFLY unit looks great - and you can't argue with the price! I think I will get a couple of these to play with too - and no, I have not yet got around to playing with the SOMO-2 yet. Perhaps I will tinker with them both at the same time!!! I just got my SOMO-II and had it working in a couple of minutes. Just add a micro-SD card, a speaker, apply power and touch either of the two control pins to ground and it starts playing. Connect the serial port lines and have full control with software. Very easy to use! --Curtis I am not a Mad Scientist... It makes me happy inventing new ways to take over the world!! |
