Hi Is it possible to use a PicKit2 to program MMBasic into a PIC32MX170F256B-50I/SP please ? If so, can anyone provide me with the set of instructions please ? If NOT, then I guess I'll just have to buy an Olimex PIC-KIT3 clone :( Thanks in advance for any help Peter The only Konstant is Change |

I seem to recall someone here saying you can use the PK2, but I am not totally sure. The MicroMite manual mentions PK3, but I seem to remember others here saying they have used their PK2's - I will let others here confirm that. If you had to buy a PK3, it would be worth the investment, as you can program the MicroMite series of chips as well as the full-size MM with the PK3, if you ever need to. Smoke makes things work. Peter, I agree with Grogs, worth the investment - only $45US. Then you can program most (if not all) PIC micro's, I use mine a lot for 8 bit PIC's and uMites. Lou Microcontrollers - the other white meat |

@Lou I just hate the idea that just because Microchip has decided, that the PicKit2 is now obsolete. From what I've read the PicKit2 with pic32prog should do the trick, but I can't find out where to download the binary program unfortunately. USD 45 is not a lot, and I will probably have to buy a PicKit 3 someday, but I just hate being forced into doing something because of the Marketing Department :( Thanks Peter The only Konstant is Change |

Peter, I know what you mean, I guess that's progress in some form or another. The PICkit 3 does have a bigger/better processor. Did you see the EEVblog #39 Dave did on the PICkit 3 here and Microchip's response here ?? They're both hilarious, worth watching if you haven't seen them. @jman Thanks for the link. I went there but every time I try the "Save as", I get to choose where to save it, but then Chrome displays "Failed - Server problem" :( I'll try again later, maybe their server is down ? Thanks once again Peter The only Konstant is Change |

Hi John Thanks for that, but unfortunately no joy. I've tried 3 different computer system, 1 x Win7, 2 x XP. 2 x Different browsers Chrome, IE. Switched off every other device on my network except for the router and the computer I was using to try and download PIC32PROG.EXE, but all to no avail ![]() I've spent hours on this ![]() Is it possible for someone to try and download https://pic32prog.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/pic32prog.exe and then send it to me via email please ? If you do please PM me. So near, yet so far Many thanks in advance Peter The only Konstant is Change |

2014-07-28_223205_pic32prog.zip I tried another way - and it worked. I used wget (which you can get for Windows I think): wget http://pic32prog.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/pic32prog.exe but importantly it worked better with http than https (makes no sense). I'm attaching it. John |

Dave does not like the PK3! ![]() ![]() That was a 2009 vid - I wonder if he has since changed his mind. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

@Grogster Indeed, it was funny, and Microchip had the grace to answer in common ! Peter The only Konstant is Change |

I actually admire the Microchip response video. A sence of humour goes a long way, in my books. It seemed by the end of the MC video, that they were taking seriously what Dave said, and looking at ways to improve it. That may well not be everyone's opinion, but that's how it looked to me. PK3 is my first PK of any kind, so not having ever played with the PK2 or it's software, I am not really in a position to say one way or the other, but what I WILL say, is that as far as a programmer is concerned, I found the PK3 and the IPE software pretty easy and painless to use - IMHO.
