Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

During March Microchip are offering free freight on purchases from Microchip Direct. To claim this you need to use the coupon code FreeShipmD during checkout.

Generally Microchip are the cheapest source for their own products and as far as I can tell this applies to everything they sell. They ship via international courier so it is good value.

EDIT: Damn, I did not spot that Peter has beaten me to the announcement!!!

just browsing through the microchip site, there seem to be a load of device i've not spotted before. for example:
PIC32MX170F512L

an MX170 in a 100-pin package, 512k of flash, 4 SPI channels. these 100-pin MX170's seem, on the face of it, to be more capable than the MX470, though the core not as fast:
http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/Devices.aspx?product=PI C32MX170F512L

the datasheet is 60001290C.pdf

this would give an MX170 with the possibility of VGA output and SD card support. could be i've not just looked in the right places before, or are these new?

cheers,
rob :-)

addendum: but, of course, just realised that with only 64k of RAM, the video resolution will be limited...Edited by robert.rozee 2015-03-08

The new chips are coming thick and fast. It will be difficult to support them all so for the moment I am concentrating on getting Peter's port for the MX470 integrated with the extra features (USB & SD Card).

Wow..!

Awesome news... So, does this mean... Maybe using let's say the 1.8" or the 2.4" touch displays that we are prototyping with, and use their onboard SD card sockets as the MM SD card. The display command/data port is SPI, the touch controller is SPI and the SD card is SPI.... Nice...

So, Layout a 470 based MPU interface board that has the RTC, USB, and power supplies to make a quick, cheap ready to go module...

This should be doable... (hope so)
