Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

@Grogster
So how are you getting on learning Python (nice 'obvious' syntax if you look at the last few posts! )

I've only had a quick play about with it, but it is actually similar in many ways to the way that MMBASIC's syntax works. Naturally, there are some serious command differences, but as to it being written in an English-type syntax, it is still familiar-ish territory. I have an awful lot more to learn yet, but YouTube and Google are good friends for this.Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!

I've only written one slightly large program in Python (a rugby results scraper).
The main reason I use 2.7 os http://www.sagemath.org/doc/faq/faq-usage.html#can-i-use-sage-with-python-3-x .
Basic was my first language too (ZX-81) but I'd definitely recommend any variant of Python as "first language" - except for Scratch, perhaps.

I agree. It was when I did my first high level language but that was a couple of years back now. Things change. I did Z80 asm as my absolute first language.

Looks like we are in about the same age group as I also started with Z80 in a NEC PC 8001.

Probably not if you are still employed. I did about 20 years of other stuff before I got to micros in about 1980.
