Hi All
As a fan of Bigmicks Bp170 I wanted something that had a few more features so I came up with this.

It only uses one smd for the special cap, it has a 12 to 5 reg if req, can have an OPEN LOG fitted to use SD cards, can be fitted with pull up resistors on the unused Pic 170 pins as well as bypass caps, I2C to suit RTC module.

$3 ea plus post if anyone wants one PM me.

Sweet Cliff..!

Is there a schematic to see..? What LCD display does it need..?

Looks like a nice PCB.. All through hole parts, easy for beginners to build..!

Nice...

Hi Zonker
The 14 pin tft spi lcd, it is the same as BigMicks BP170 with the extra bits, as you say all through hole except for the special cap req by the PIC chips.

Easy not only for beginners but those whose eye sight and steady hands that are no longer what they used to be (especially me).

Hi Pierre
Sorry but I have none left, when I ordered the board to be made I thought I was getting one but ten arrived. I have made up two for myself the rest went very quickly to good homes I hope.

@ centrex
If you don't want to order more boards, maybe you could make the gerbers available for others to order.

Hi Cliff,

A nice little board you have come up with.. I like the all Through Hole design (OK the VCap is SMD) it could be popular.

I think maybe you should consider another batch or two if there is sufficient interest. If you want to buy 20 PCBs with Shenzhen2U then place two separate designs that happen to be identical artwork this will ship for the same price as 1 order so you can save a bit on freight.

Congratulations on you first `commercially made' PCB

Also there was no need for any credit to me on the board but it flatters me... Peter and Geoff deserve all the accolades there.

Regards,

Mick

Hi Paul
Yes I could do that if someone wants to get more of the boards. I will find them and put them on the forum.

Please note that there are through-hole 10uF ceramics available to make it 100% through hole. Even though this SMD component is easy to solder (as easy as a through hole), some people may still have a 'phobia' about this one component.

Can I propose that if anyone does make more of this PCB then to simply add in a through hole vCap instead. There is plenty of space on the PCB in the current position (and note that the caps are available in 0.1" and 0.2" pitch spacing).

@WW
OK on the through hole cap, I have added two via's at the smd location.
This would allow all through hole construction.
Have to see if there is any more interest before I put up the Gerber's or get more made.

I would be interested in one or two, and I'm pretty sure based on the
reception you got with the first accidental batch there will be
considerable interest. It would be my first MM.

It might help to give more of a description of the various connects,
although my questions were answered by carefully examining the photo
you provided.

I like the I2C pads; you almost can't get enough of them. In fact, if
possible, could another I2C row be added? My projects use sensors, and
they're almost all done with I2C, not to mention displays.

Thank you for your effort.

Hi Hank,

Not wanting to hijack Cliff's thread but if you are looking for multi I2C points and a MX170 based board have a look at the link in my signature at the bottom of this post at MuP as it has a 170 and 4 x I2C headers.. It can be fitted with 3types of VReg so the only SMD part would be the VCap which is not that hard to solder... MuP does not however have an SPI pin out header for the display modules, these will have to be jumper wires.... Not too bad, there are not that many pins needed.

Anyway this is the beauty of this site and the MicroMite .... There are now many different options to chose from.

Regards,

Mick

Mick,

Thanks for reminding that your MuP has four sets of I2C pads. It's very
well done and I've come close a few times to ordering one from you; probably
will do that pretty soon.

I have been pretty occupied with 8 bit uC work, especially since I like
to keep power use really low, but will be getting around to the MM.
(Finally got an ATMEGA328 under 1 microamp in sleep).

Guess I've got a preference for through-hole because I'm in the habit of
cutting traces and drilling holes for extra parts or wires in PC boards,
and these smaller multilayer SMD boards do not lend themselves to this
kind of hacking.

Hi All

Here are the gerber files for the board it has been updated a little the mounting holes for the display should now lineup, holes for the Vcap, the two power supply filter caps have been spread a little and the 12 to 5 volt reg moved to stop a bit of crowding.

2015-08-14_230322_lcd-bp170.zip

Use as you wish no strings attached all due care but any problems are yours.

It works well.
