Tried it without success I'm afraid. Went with AutoTRAX and managed to produce a board.

Well OK, I wouldn't think that it would be all that good for making boards, but I thought in general for hooking things up, documentation, etc.

Used it for a few days making a few breadboard 'schematics'.
Found that you hit a usability limit extremely quickly.
Works ok when you have a box full of overpriced Sparkfun stuff, but using basic parts and adding new parts (like a micromite) is a serious pain.

It does make pretty pictures for when you want to show a wired up breadboard. For anything else it is a waste of time. Time better spend to learn a bit about Eagle, Diptrace (my favorite) or any other schematic/pcb as that not only has way more components available but actually will learn you something that can be used for the rest of your live while fritzing is only good for the first few hours. After that it is a constant battle to do what you want to do.

They also basically closed their support as the forum is already not useable for more than a month. I think that is a sign that it will be abandoned pretty soon.

Really wasn't expecting to use it as a PCB development package. Do people do this? I have had Schem/PCB in place for two decades.

It was only to use as a way to document solderless breadboards "pretty" and in a visual way. That I think it does well at (perhaps). Although if part creation is a pain, then I'll probably give it a pass.

I was looking to make a board, the breadboard layout bit was ok but taking it to a schematic and actual board layout was problematic for me.

Yes, it has it's limitations, you will know it after you used it. However it is really easy to learn. I learnt it without reading a manual and I never used any PCB design software before. I used it to design my Micromite test board and I used the board as my everyday Micromite test platform. IMO, it is an easy to learn PCB design software suitable to deal with through hole components.

I use a very old copy of LochMaster 4.0 for both Veroboard and Breadboard layouts.
It can be a pin to learn as it fails to coply with most of the windows guidelines and I don't even know if it is still actively developed/supported, but I do get some very useful results out of it.

Yes I like the looks of that. I might pick a path that is completely graphic/document driven with no underlying electrical ability, though.

More work, but also more control.

Thanks for that suggestion. It is helping me get to get onto the right path.

you may wish to have a look at DIY Layout Creator (type "diylc" into google). the current version, 3.28, dates from 2013, and it seems like the author has give up on making any updates. but it is extremely simple to use, and can produce quite nice output for both schematics and veroboard.

note that it is graphically orientated, and has no CAD ability. i've used it for most of the stuff i post on these forums - once completed, i export layout as a PDF then use photoshop CE 2 to convert to gif.
