Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi All,

I would like to share a little project of mine. I made a slow parallel computer with 80 Micromites as slaves and 1 Maximite as the master. Just for fun but it works in a nice way. If you are interested you can read all about it on http://www.zapptronics.com/diy-parallel-computing/

I just finished the website and I hope you can read the english on the website because it is not my native language

Have fun and maybe you are inspired to add to this project.

I can only say... wow!
How did you optimise the programs for multiprocessing?

Well I don't think the program is very optimized . I have just made it to prove the concept of parallel processing with Micromites. The code can be much better because there are some delay's in it to let I2C function work oke. I think maybe with another kind of calculation (one with takes a longer time per node to come up with an answer)it works better. On the other hand the Maximite as a master is probably not the right choice because it cannot plot faster then it does. It has to take all info from 80 nodes and do something with it. So there are a few bottlenecks but now the cluster is finished I am going to find out what more I can use it for

Brilliant but I can't help thinking of this.

Adding the sound and lighting effects would be great..

My guess would be Orac from the Blake's...

EDIT: ah... just ran the video. It reveals it there... So my guess was pointless.Edited by kiiid 2015-11-26

Thanks for the reactions

And Ah Yes Blakes Seven they also broadcasted two seasons of it over here in the Netherlands. It was a nice serie. But I always thought that computer was a bit of an odd construction which did not look as a real computer Edited by Henk 2015-11-26
