I just received 64 PCBs from ShenZhen with no paperwork that I did not order, they are triangle shaped about 100mm high and have provision for 10 LEDs and a driver IC, probably a 555.
I am thinking maybe this is some sort of Xmas promo as they look like they would make a flashing Xmas tree. Any one else get some of these. I don't know whether to contact them or throw the boards in the bin.
Paul.

Can you please post a photo of them?

I have done more then 30 orders via SH2U now, and they never go to the wrong place, but if it was a freebie Xmas promo or something, yeah, I would expect some paperwork to clarify that this was the case......

Here is a pic. I see now the IC is an ATTiny micro.

Paul

Edit. I suppose to receive 64 boards it is obviously a mistake and not a promo.Edited by palcal 2015-12-02

I sure wouldn't toss them.

How about contacting and if they say don't bother returning, how about passing them out here on the shed? :)

I volunteer to be the redistributor to the US for a small bundle.

Hi Paul,

I would guess they have obviously stuffed up, one of their QC checkers will now be summarily executed..

Contact them and say the incorrect PCBs were delivered I have found them quite responsive to my emails.

Regards,

Mick

If you are 'allowed' to keep them, then simply drop one of BigMik's NanoMites on each PCB and make a forest of flashing Christmas Tree's

I have already contacted them, but to complicate matters I had an order with them I am waiting on. Their reply to my email suggests they did not understand fully what happened so I have replied and hopefully will get a reply that makes sense.
The problem with redistribution among TBS members is the cost of postage for such a simple PCB.
They would probably work OK with an 08 PicAxe.

Translation problems can be a common issue dealing with Chinese businesses - though no fault of their own.

I find that it is a good idea to type you message, keeping the language as simple as possible, omit any local colloquialisms etc, and then copy and paste your message into Google Translate, then copy the Chinese back into your message and send them BOTH.

This may well be more effort then you are prepared to go to for boards that are not yours....

They seem to be destined for "Sinntec" - is that a web address or email on the back silkscreen? Perhaps you could email them, and depending on where they are, they would probably be happy enough to pay postage to get hold of them.

I did just that Grogs, pretended I was talking to a 2 year old. Got it sorted, we received each others boards so they are reproducing both lots and re sending them.
If any one wants some of these, I don't know why you would, I will look into the cost of postage.

Paul

Edit: Just checked postage, about $7 to USA or UK, $5 to NZ.
I'll wear the cost if any one wants some.Edited by palcal 2015-12-02

Hi Paul.
Please can you see if 3 fit into an Airmail envelope (taped to some thin card on both sides) and drop them in the post to sunny UK! Will gladly cover all your costs. No need for tracking, just standard Airmailwith a 'proof of posting' should they get lost! I will PM my address if you're ok to send!

That would be fine from my perspective but you can buy an entire kit of a similar tree inc freight for cheaper than my buy price of the SSOP '170

See LINK

I guess it is a near cousin you are linking to, but it is also a simpler circuit from what I understand. I see no micro in this design.

Anyway having two grand kids coming my way from Europe, perhaps a couple of those you have linked to would be could be entertaining for 7 and 9 year olds. Thanks for the link.

GDay Plover,

Whilst the circuit doesnt have any smarts if you look at the vid clip near the bottom it looks pretty impressive from what I gather is a 2 transistor multi-vibrator circuit.

As an aside, here is a post I did of my daughter, Georgia's first time EVER soldering and she made a microprocessor driven clock.

Clock Kit

That might be a good kit for your grand kids although good luck getting them by Christmas.

Regards,

Mick
