Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

LONDON—Microcontroller vendor Microchip Technology Inc. (Chandler, Ariz.) is the company that has made a $3.8 billion unsolicited offer for Atmel Corp. (San Jose, Calif.), according to a Reuters report that referenced an unnamed source.

Atmel has already agreed to be acquired by Dialog Semiconductor plc (London, England) but Atmel said it would look at the counter offer.

Dialog's bid – of $4.65 per share in cash and 0.112 of a Dialog American depositary share for each Atmel share – was valued at about $4.6 billion when it was originally made in September 2015 . However, the value of the bid has declined along with Dialog's share price since then.

Microchip and On Semi launched a joint unsolicited bid of $2.3 billion for Atmel in October 2008. The offer was rejected and later withdrawn.

As long as they don't get rid of the simple but usable IDE and force every one to install MPLABX to use Arduino's :)
