Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Thanks Bill, that works for the initial start up but when switching users the picture still comes up and you still need a password.

I found a site that gives different ways of removing the Lock ("cave") screen but haven't tried any of them. The site is Windows Tips

Thanks micronut I'll have a look.
@TassieJim
I wasn't happy about being forced into a Microsoft account but there may come a time when you can't do without one. I just helped a friend set up his new PC and he had purchased the latest Microsoft Office. I opened the box expecting to find a CD but there was only the access key, I think the box is so it feels like you actually bought something. You then download and install but you MUST have a Microsoft account to do so.
I am also having problems setting up any third party email accounts, my @live.com account I had to have for my Microsoft account works fine but it is not the one I use. I have tried to set up manually but so far no luck, I read somewhere that Win 10 does not like POP3 accounts.
Paul.

@ micronut
read that and edited the registry as it said, I had already got rid of the cave screen on start up using another method and was hoping this would stop the screen when switching accounts but it doesn't work. I understand the lock screen for mobile devices but it is not necessary on a PC.Edited by palcal 2016-03-23

Hi Paul

I had no trouble setting up my emails when I installed 10

I am using Microsoft outlook 13 and bigpond is my provider.

I installed 10 when it first become available so I do not remember any problems with the setup

Paul,
No problems here with an old Outlook 2003 and POP email accounts.
I have also set up Thunderbird with POP accounts and W10.

I avoid multiple user accounts so I can't help further with the lock screen.

palcal said   You then download and install but you MUST have a Microsoft account to do so.

With Google you get great services, Gmail, Docs etc for free, but in turn you have to create an account and give up some rights to privacy.

With WIN10 I get the Impression that Microsoft is jealous of the Google model, and the financial success it brought, and want to also leverage that same user information but without giving anything for free or losing their current revenue streams.

I also think that the free upgrade is a bait and switch. When they reach critical mass you will only be able to install apps from the app store and will have to pay a monthly licence fee to use them.

I may be paranoid, but I am also one of the earliest MS Certified Professionals, have acted as a windows evangelist and am still listed as a beta tester.

If Microsoft want to give me a PC I will let them dictate what I can do with it, but if I purchase the hardware I want full control, not what MS grant me and with no strings attached.

I did find a solution, My new laptop now runs Linux Mint and so far I am very impressed. I had a few driver issues with older electronics hardware and applications, but no more so than I would have had with WIN 8/10, and yes I have a bit of a learning curve but their version of office is free and far better than Microsofts.

So the bottom line, if M$ try and force WIN10 on my primary machine I will pull the plug and go linux there too.

Cheers
Chris
