Ok then,
Just the original instructions say to make sure it is less than 12v
I guess if I want to go up to 24V I should get a 25Ohm resistor for the load to do the calibration?

You are merely trying to see what the system voltage drop is when operating in the normal range and without current limiting. Any combination of voltage and resistance that meets these criteria is fine.
I specified a particular resistor for calibration and that defined the maximum voltage that I could use for this particular step.
Don't get overly concerned about it. The only really key calibration steps are those that set the Displayed "Actual voltage" compared to the externally measured voltage and the displayed "Actual current" compared to the externally measured current
