Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I am back from my trip around Tassy (great place by the way) and while I was away Silicon Chip published two projects of mine based on the Micromite (the Parking Assistant and Boat Computer).

Part of the reason for these projects was to demonstrate what you can do with the Micromite and an LCD display. This includes multiple fonts, on screen menus, keypads, etc. The projects are based on the Micromite LCD Backpack but there is nothing special about the programs and they will run on any standard 28-pin Micromite with a suitable LCD, including Mick's Backpack. I hope to publish more of these types of projects in the future including a clock, function generator, car computer, battery monitor, etc.

For people who do not subscribe to Silicon Chip I have posted the code and a description of both projects on my website:
Parking Assistant: http://geoffg.net/ParkingAssistant.html
Boat Computer: http://geoffg.net/BoatComputer2.html

BTW the Micromite LCD Backpack seems to have been very popular because the magazine is scrambling to meet demand for their kit and they are now finding it hard to source 2.8" LCD panels in quantity (have we used up the world's supply?).

Hi Geoff, all i can say is WOW. I look back at the day when you asked for a few beta testers for the original micromite and where things are today. I have to congratulate you for your incredible effort and hard work taking this little piece of silicon and making so many things possible for people like me and countless others. The fact that you keep improving the firmware and that it can run on bigger and faster chips, and asking nothing in return shows what an exceptional person you are. Your single effort has literally changed what I do everyday. Since beta days, I now have an entire "lab" and small production setup based solely on things I build using the micromite. My simple mind couldn't wrap itself around the arduino and other popular platforms, but your platform works so well for me and my projects. The micromite has literally got me back in the game of electronics that I really love so much. My wife might feel a bit differently, but she's coming around.

I also have to thank the awesome folks that are on this forum for all the help I have so gratefully received. I am in my second year on this forum approaching 800 posts. During this time I have learned so much from the members here. I have been able to build countless one up projects ranging from employee time clock, a vending machine, my little antique radio and all kinds of little controllers used in crazy different things (probably over 50 different things all based on the uMite). I bet I have purchased a majority of Digikeys 28 pin 170s (???). I have learned to design pc boards and have them made in china, surface mount parts with a reflow toaster oven and am always learning more coding and techniques, all from this forum, and all this, based on Geoffs original effort. I hope to see the day where this platform gets the kind of attention that it really does deserve. I wish that a publication or two over here in the States with pick this up and get the ball rolling on this side of the pond like silicon chip does over there.

So basically and long windedly, THANK YOU GEOFF and EVERYONE HERE!!!! The fun is just starting, and I couldn't have done any of what I do without you!!!!

Sorry for going on and on....

Yep..! Big tip of the hat fine Sir..!! Without your work on the MM project and big efforts from many here at TBS, I would have never got back on working with designing my own stuff again... Awesome effort from all.!!!

I'm still waiting for the second half of the Boat computer Series, the bit with Instructions on building the Boat to house the Computer :)

Joking aside, add my voice to the fan list.

Cheers
Chris
