Can anyone recommend a suitable case/box/object to mount this display in? It will have to have room for a backpack attached to the display and a few connectors on the side mini/micro usb or similar type size holes will be needed. |

You could use something like this: Plastic box with clear lid The beauty of these kinds of box, is that you can mount the LCD inside the clear lid part, and then you don't have to cut any hole for the LCD window. You can design a label to stick on the front of the clear lid, that covers the bits you don't want to be able to see - this is much easier then cutting a NEAT window for the LCD. D'OH! Ahhhhh, yeah...... Should have thought of that...... Whoops. ![]() ![]() How about a simple case designed in the likes of QCAD, and you can then send the files to just about any sheet-metal works with a laser-cutter and folding machines. This is how I did a case just before Christmas. More expensive then the plastic case though, but much stronger. You could also design in QCAD for Perspex and have it plastic-welded together. Perspex may end up being cheaper by the time you factor in that a steel case then usually needs to be powder-coated so it is in some kind of appealing colour other then prison-grey. I'd love that but unfortunately I know nothing about QCAD or similar programs, The idea of a laser cut case is actually perfect and I never even thought of it. Anything that can be painted or printed on would be ideal. |

Maybe this idea... 4-D Systems makes Bezels for there display units... $10 The hole pattern would be wrong... But it's a start... They also have other sizes... Maybe worth a look... ![]() |

Thanks for the link Zonker. Those look VERY nice! I will be bookmarking those for future reference. I never know what to do for cases. --Curtis I am not a Mad Scientist... It makes me happy inventing new ways to take over the world!! |

Hey 4D, I haven't seen them for a while.. They are/were a Sydney based company run by a smart chap called Atilla.. My very first OLED display I had a play with was a 4D systems unit.. They look nice, if not cheap. Kind Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

@ lew247 - I have used QCAD for my other case, so I could probably whip something up. The choices are a bezel like Zonker linked to, made out of Perspex or powder-coated sheet steel, or a full folded/riveted sheet steel laser cut case - or Perspex of the same. The case I got made before Christmas was quite large(430mm x 230mm x 60mm) and cost NZ$160(US$110) laser-cut and bent. This is a big case(and a one-off) though, so smaller(and perhaps in bulk) would be considerably cheaper. I might rustle up something simple in QCAD, and get a quote from my sheet metal works. It might be something I could offer on my website - perhaps - as Geoff is known to be working on a TFT module based around the MM+, which would then make a case for the LCD desirable for many people, I would expect - myself included. It all comes down to getting the best price - I will do some investigation on this for my own interest. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

@Mik... I love 4-D stuff, but expensive..! I am waiting to get more GUI objects for the MM to keep the hardware prices in check... But, you can do awesome stuff with the 4-D units.. ![]() This the 7" touch unit ![]() Just send them serial packet commands... This is part of the EIS system... |

Grogster I like the idea of the bezel, probably best made out of powder coated steel or something similar. I've been thinking and partly to keep the price down it would probably be best if it had some kind of plastic case. Ideally with some holes in as it will have a humidity and temp sensor inside (to measure the inside temp/humidity) and I guess having holes in might give a better reading than being fully sealed even if the holes were at the back and out of sight? Not sure if that would work and let the humidity module give a more accurate reading or not. Zonker Thanks for the link to the bezel, they do look really good. I've got till probably next Thur or Fri before the board comes back from China (hopefully by then) so I'll have a good idea of proper dimensions needed then. |

Hi Lew Don't know if you have decided on an enclosure yet but if you want plastic I can cut you one out and send to you as a flatpack, you can then glue together (acrylic glue). I can make to your specs but the one I made was for a SSD1963 7" display. I made this one with a bezel front larger than the enclosure as the idea was to build into the wall (easy with us we have timber frames covered with Gyprock (drywall) plasterboard) but you could have it as a desk mounted enclosure whatever you decide. See the attached will give you some idea, the cad drawing shows you the pieces to glue together. The display is recessed into the front panel and blocks glued to the rear panel sandwich the internals in place (made to fit). Anyway the offers there if you want. Mike ![]() Codenquilts |

Nice one. ![]() MikeO might be the best bet at this stage, Lew... (although, I am still looking at perhaps getting sheet-metal bezels made, which can then be fitted in place of a plastic box lid for the likes of the $30 eBay case kind of idea - still very much an idea floating around in the wind at the moment though.
