For a large alphanumeric display I used a 32 inch LED TV and an rPi. The rPi drove the TV via HDMI. There were a few things to manage in different ways. I pulled all of the icons off of the desktop, used a blank desktop image, and hid the top bar. This resulted in booting up to what looked like a blank screen. I ran a python script/program on powerup. This script created an output window (with no window decorations like a close button) and simply displayed text in the size/colors that I wanted in the screen positions that I wanted. Serial input was captured and processed to change the contents of the display. All of that was done in python 3. Micromites and Maximites! - Beginning Maximite |

CircuitGizmos Thanks for the info. My son has played with python a bit and can probably make sense of your description. I have been investigation freebasic but producing different sized fonts seems possible but a bit involved. I'll probably get a chance to play with a rPi in the next few days. Your setup sounds pretty much what I had in mind. David |
