Hi folks. ![]() Have any of you had any problems getting Logic installed on Windows 7 for the Saleae logic analysers? I am tring to install 1.2.10 on Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1, 32-bit, but it keeps failing saying that disk1.cab has an invalid signature. The exact same exe installer installed and ran fine on my Windows 8 machine. I have tried making different copies of the exe in case there was a problem with the USB drive I used to transfer the file, but out of three different USB drives, ALL of them report this exact same error, at the exact same time. The installer is in the process of "Extracting files from archive" when I get this error. Has anyone here seen that? I posted a question on the Saleae Q&A's, but I have not had a response yet, and I know that some members here have that Saleae thing and just want to know if they had any issues. I assume that you have download the file from Saleae again? Copy it from the USB drive onto the main HDD in 'Documents' Also, is your W7 fully up to date. There could be some old Windows files it doesn't like. (It's supposed to run on XP so that is unlikely). Jim VK7JH MMedit |

No, I did not bother to download it again, as it installed fine on W8. ![]() I will connect the laptop to my broadband, and download the file DIRECTLY on the W7 laptop, from Saleae and see if that helps. W8 is 64-bit, W7 laptop is 32-bit - perhaps the download auto-detects the 32-bit or 64-bit version as part of the download? Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

UPDATE: Downloaded the file directly from Saleae on the W7 laptop, and this time it installed and ran fine. All up and running. ![]() It must look for the system architecture during the download, and might have been trying to install the 64-bit version on 32-bit W7 perhaps. Smoke makes things work. Your browser sends that information so it is very possible that it uses that information to give you the best match. Microblocks. Build with logic. |

That laptop is one of only a couple of things still left running on 32-bit. Everything else is 64-bit. I wish they would let you choose the architecture you want it for though, but more and more sites auto-detect that - Microsoft are the same. Smoke makes things work. They do that deliberately so that you grant them permission to report back on the content and configuration of your machine. Call me Paranoid but I see no reason why that information should be disclosed and it is an invasion of privacy to request it. http://caroper.blogspot.com/ |

First of all that info is not requested by any server. It is the browser that initiate the connection and send it in the form of headers. The information send is pretty useless for anything else then detecting which browser and OS you are running. I do not consider that private info as you are going on a public internet and want things to work. Here is a sample of what is send:
Accept: text/html, application/xhtml+xml, image/jxr, */* Referer: https://www.bing.com/ Accept-Language: en-US User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/46.0.2486.0 Safari/537.36 Edge/13.10586 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Host: pgl.yoyo.org Connection: Keep-Alive
You can check what your browser sends here: http://pgl.yoyo.org/http/browser-headers.php The only bit that could be private is the 'referer'. I did a bing search and then clicked on the link. If you click on it in this post then the referer will be this website and page. Microblocks. Build with logic. |

Thanks MicroBlocks, I didn't realise that the header contained that information by default. I have been to several sites mainly HP and Nvidia come to think of it, that require you to download software to analyse the driver you require, rather than letting you select it. I assumed Saleae were doing something similar. http://caroper.blogspot.com/ |

They have replied to my question, and think it is something to do with the digital signatures on the files, which ARE different depending on what platform you download the file on, so it is one of those cases where you have to download the file from the site on the machine you plan to install it on. Not a problem if you know that, but a bit of a pain in the posterior if you hope to download the file on someone else's behalf. I guess 99% of the world these days has Internet access, so it is probably more of a non-issue then a real issue in today's world! ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |
