The in-built MM+ firmware takes 14 seconds to display the attached 800x480 image of a tiger saved as a .BMP on a SSD1963 display.
The attached code takes just 2 seconds to display the same image, saved as a binary portable pixelmap (.PPM), at the same resolution and same colour depth. Any semi-decent photo software will be able to save images as .BMP and .PPM. Make sure to choose the binary option for the .PPM files. This code uses the MX170 loadable SDcard driver configured for the Micromite+. The loadable SDcard driver uses the PetitFAT software which is much lighter weight than the Microchip SD stack. Also the .PPM image files are easier to interpret than .BMP. The code posted is configured and tested on a 100-pin Micromite with a SSD1963 display configured as usual with OPTION LCDPANEL. To use on a 64-pin version substitute the pair of CFunctions that are commented out in the code. The code has been tested on 4.3", 5", and 7" SSD1963 displays. The use of the loadable SDcard driver is compatible with normal use of the in-built SDcard routines in the MM+ so you can still use "FILES" etc. and just use the driver for faster load of images. Alternatively you can use the loadable driver functionality as explained in this post The code includes slideshow functionality for all .PPM files found on the SDcard. To display a single image just use the command DisplayPicture "image.ppm",0,0
The two zeros are the x,y coordinates of the top left of the picture. i.e. the syntax is the same as "LOAD IMAGE" Of course the CFunctions and the Displaypicture routine can be stored in the LIBRARY to reduce their footprint. Option explicit

Robert has just discovered that some graphics programs do not add a comment in the .PPM header which my program assumed. The attached DisplayPicture routine fixes this. Try XnView as a simple Photo assistant tool. When you add it's shell extension, XnShell, it has a lot of common tasks in it's right-click context menu. Not a replacement for PS or Corel, but very useful & quick to use tools. It has PPM; don't know about the header, just a check box labelled ascii in the PPM options. Phil. |

@matherp I have been looking at this topic , an old thread I know but do you have the source code available, as I would like to cobble together a version to work with my CPLD display. The MM+ used to use the Microchip SD card routines which were slow. Recent releases have migrated to FatFS so this thread is now redundant. The only way to go faster is this thread which you already know about and includes source |
