I think that is the chip used in a Microbee addon project.
If so, I have one 'somewhere in the shed'

Yes I have one in an ETI "Chatterbox" kit.

If you are clever it can produce quite good speech, they are a pretty rare find now days, they were used in pinball machines and add-on cards for micros (like yours).
I think I ran mine from a System 80 (Dick Smith TRS80 clone) and it was later re-purposed as a speech back end for a topographic GPS navigation project, waaay before the in-car versions existed.

For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED.

I had a couple back in the 80's. There was an article in EA at the time that I built and it produced quite good speech. I would still have them somewhere.

Lads,

Brings back memories of old... I used to have a larger 0.6" DIP (SPO-256 or something similar???) I had a play with I also had a TRS80 VOX box...

I really hated the monotone voice but now I think it would be really cool.. but $25 for just the chip that is nearly 40 years old.. Nahhh.

I remember having several different chips, including one produced by Screw Works or some similar but unlikely name. Had one on the Microbee and one on the old S100 Z80 homebrew computer. I only demolished the old S100 box last year, in the final stages of the move from Canberra back to Tassie - kept all the boards though!
