Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi folks.

There have been a few requests both publiclly here on the forums, and via emails and PM's, about an add-on SD card board for CON10.

I can confirm that this IS being designed as of right now. I am just waiting on the SD card sockets to arrive, so that I can confirm I have designed the footprint correctly before I get any boards made and make anything available.

Also, please note that with CON10, the TOP-MOST-PIN on this connector is 3v3.
This is because the schematic did not show a 3v3 connection, and we need one to be able to power the external card.

So, top-most pin on CON10 is 3v3, then the pins are what they say they are according to the schematic. INCORRECT - PLEASE SEE EDIT BELOW!

I was not really expecting people to go for the external SD card abaility quite so soon, as the LCD module has an on-board SD card socket, but there you go!

The external SD card board also has an SD activity LED which will light whenever you access the external SD card.

I note that Geoff has assigned different control-line pins to this socket, so this one must be able to exist seperate from the first SD card, but at this stage, I am only aware of MMBASIC allowing one SD card, but I guess that support for a 2nd SD card must be in the long-term plan. I might have that wrong too.

EDIT: Schematic DOES show 3v3, so this is most likely a layout error. Damn.

CON10 is laid out as: (top-to-bottom)

3v3
CS (pin-52)
SD IN
SD CLK
SD OUT
SD CD (pin-53)
SD WP (pin-17)
GROUND

Note also the order in which the SD pins are arranged is also different to that of the schematic. I have a feeling that it was done like this simply cos of space restraints at the time, trying to squeeze CON10 in there at all, so I just connected the SPI bus from the LCD connector to the nearest pin on CON10. One of those bloody things I was meant to document at the time, but forgot. Curses.

Having said that, the add-on card will be designed for this pinout, and if you want to do your own one, just follow what is listed above in bold and it should work.

Apologies for any confusion this may have caused people. Edited by Grogster 2016-08-23
