Hi folks.

As I am desperate, I thought I would ask here - perhaps one of the members can help....

The lightning that destroyed everything, also destroyed a system that used the uALFAT-TF module for the files:

This module is no longer produced by GHI, and although I have posted on their forums, they don't seem to be able to help with sourcing a couple either, so I am asking if any member happens to have one of those modules, I would desperately like to buy it from you.

This module was used back then, as the Maximite and Micromite did not exist back then, nor did I know anything about them. Now days, naturally, I use the MM+ with it's built-in SD card support, but for right now, I desperately need a couple of these modules.

If anyone can help at all, please do post.

I have one of their later-model ALFAT modules, but there are compatibility and size problems with that one, and I REALLY don't want to have to try to port code over with all the other faults on my plate - I just can't do it. I need a drop-in replacement for now.

Can anyone here make me happy?

I only have a VDrive2 which is no use to you.

I suggest you try the picaxe forum as well.

Good luck.

Cheers for that idea - will indeed put a post on the PICAXE forums.

@Grogster

I say your post on the PICAXE forum.

GHI is in Madison Heights Michigan about 475 miles west of me. But, I can telephone them free thanks to my VOIP phone service. If you want me to find out what happened to their design files, which appear to be missing from their website, I will be glad to try to talk to them. They might also have some incomplete boards laying around which they might be willing to sell.

Saelig was a distributor for your board. They are near Rochester NY about 240 miles from me. I can also call them to see if they have any laying around.

I suspect that some other people here might be a lot closer to them than I am.

This thing seems to be out of production for at least eight years. In the long run you should probably design something of your own so you can make some spare boards. It sounds like it is a critical piece of your system.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Hi Paul. :)
By all means, please feel free to call GHI and ask about the files.

PICAXE forum has saved me, and I have already purchased a couple of modules from members there, so I will have a backup module - which I will now never use...... ;)

You are so right there, and in fact, the design is in the process of being ported across to the MM+ with touch-screen, and it's built-in SD card support. The upgrade was set for early next year, but then this.....

I cannot put the upgrade in now, as it is not quite finished, and a rush-job to finish it and put it in spells disaster in my eyes. I like to bench-test stuff for a wee while to squish as many bugs as possible BEFORE commissioning anything - just my process.

But yeah, if the damn thing had just held on for a few more months, or, more to the point, had the damn lightning held off for a few more months, it would not be such an issue even then, cos I could have replaced it quite easily.

Ho hum....... Edited by Grogster 2016-10-26

@Grogster --

I called GHI in Madison Heights Michigan at 1-248-297-8856 and spoke to Bob. He has one remaining new uALFAT-TF board in stock. The price for it is $50.00 plus shipping. I think he invented that price because it is no longer listed in their catalog. I have no idea how fast it could get to you or how much the shipping would cost.

To expedite things for you I would be willing to pay for the board and shipping with one of my credit cards, just send me the shipping address. I have no idea what involvement you would have with New Zealand customs or import duties at your end.

The engineers had gone home already today but tomorrow Bob will try to find the design files which had been posted to their older web site. The web site has been through a few incarnations since the posting in 2009. The files used to be located at https://www.ghielectronics.com/downloads/uALFAT/uALFAT-TF%20DesignFiles.zip

Bob does not know if the circuit contained any specially manufactured circuits or if it contains only stock items.

Better get busy on a design for a new generation replacement!

Let me know if you want me to expedite the purchase of the one remaining new board which is still in stock.

Hey Paul.

Thanks for the offer.
I wonder why GHI themselves said they had not even one they could sell me?(rhetorical)

Obviously, you found one with a phone call.

I have sourced a couple, but I think I would still like to take you up on your offer, simply cos there is another system at another site that also uses this module - it is also due for an upgrade, but it would releave my stress level if I have a few spares for now, till I can finish the new system code - that will be a Christmas holiday project I think......

Please flick me a PM so we can swap some details, and I can get you paid.

Thank you once again for taking the time and effort to follow up on this - I really appreciate it.
