Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello everyone.

New version of the PCB will be available as part of the kits going forward.
The only major change is the addition of the 1455 interface on the rear of the board, so that the USB socket now connects to the E100 via the 1455, and NOT via the PIC32's USB pins anymore.

The addition of this chip also allows you to easily program new firmware into the E100 WITHOUT the need for a PK3 or Microchip IPE at all, you just use ASCII-ICSP. This will also allow for a persistent E100 USB console as standard, that won't result in the VCP vanishing when you press the reset button. No more closing TeraTerm, and restarting every time you press RESET on the E100.

Old ICSP and USB-Serial-module pin-strips remain on the board for backwards-compatibility, but they don't need to be used any more, technically, and I won't be including those pin-strips in any new kits.

I have ordered ten boards for now so that I can check everything works as it should, then I will get 50 or so for stock and I will change the website to show the new model etc. This will have the effect of increasing the price a buck or two, but I have yet to check that. It won't be much, as the 1455 is cheap, and the PCB's themselves stay the same cost for their size.

The kits will come with the 1455 pre-fitted like the other SMD parts.

Hey Grogs,

Have you got the boards yet? Do they work as advertised?

Yes I do. I was supposed to PM you about that based on your post above...sorry.

I have built one, and used it to program the PIC32 and all the standard 1455 interface features work fine on this board.

I have also on-sold a few now in the E100 kits - I need to update the website to include this new feature in the description. Actually, I have a few different things to update on the site, but I never seem to find the time to do it.
