I just had the touch fail on a 5" lcd panel. In retrospect it had been playing up for a few days but I thought it was just that I didn't press right. Now it displays random errors under GUI calibrate and occasionally MM+ gives a 'touch hardware error' message. I guess it is dead after 6months Any suggestions re treatment or is it as I suspect - terminal. The display is fine so I should be able to use it somewhere. I need a replacement and was planning to order a couple of Sainsmart units as they match the connectors on the MM+ E100. Currently using a 7"display from another project to finish the development and until the new ones arrive. Does anyone have a source for panels which have proven reliable long term? Cheers, Alastair |

They are usually very reliable, I have found. You could check the touch controller chip on the back of the LCD - make sure it is properly soldered down, or maybe you have a dry-joint or two somewhere. The controller chip is very cheap, and you could try replacing that first, as that is far cheaper then replacing the entire LCD module. If you are happy soldering SMD, I am pretty sure I have some of those touch controller chips here, so could send you one if you wanted to try replacing it. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I'm sure everybody has their favourite supplier. I get them from http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-0-800x480-TFT-LCD-Module-Display-Touch-Panel-SSD1963-51-AVR-STM32-/162018423164?hash=item25b90 cf17c Takes about 2 weeks and haven't had any problems yet. skyv |

G Thanks for the offer. I am on a roll doing the s/w for a 'must get finished' project. I will take some time out later and look for anything dodgy on the board. I was initially apprehensive about smd soldering but so far have found it ok and easier than expected. cheers Cheers, Alastair |

Skyv, thanks for the link. Since I bought my first displays they seem to have dropped in price, especially the 7" units. Cheers, Alastair |

Alastair, Just a thought - I had some similar issues with a 5" display some time ago and it ended up being that I had not set up the SD card which shares the SPI (I think?) Anyway, once I had correctly OPTION'ed the SD card on the display it all seemed to work OK. Just an idea to check. panky ... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it! |

Panky, It was all working correctly for a couple of months and then started to give errors. I have reflashed the MM and set the options etc. No change. The 7" works fine on the same MM+ with no errors. As Grogs has suggested it looks like a flaky touch chip. The display is still perfect. Cheers, Alastair |

As panky said, make sure the SD card is configured. Having it not configured causes intermittent errors which might account for it working correctly before. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Ok, I take the point. Have redone all the options. Display works correctly, SDcard works, touch fails GUI CALIBRATE with large errors or stops with a message 'touch hardware error'. About to adjust the touch panel with 4lb hammer. thanks Cheers, Alastair |
