Can you address an SD card from a Standard Micromite? No. Well why not? Must be the Firmware overhead exceeds the available space. It's got the pins. Any way to push this limit? Why am I asking? Well I can talk to a uSD card from PIC16F876 (for example) using Assembly to a 4D Systems Microdrive via serial. Works well. But 4D Systems have stopped selling the Microdrive. None anywhere. Bother! Jumping from Pics to Micromite seems do-able - I can see the steps but haven't jumped yet. But Micromite Plus seems a very big leap. It can do stuff I don't need. It's like buying a wedding cake when all you really wanted was a cereal bar. Talking to an SD card directly looks really tricky so I am not surprised it takes a lot of Firmware. All too hard for me. So is there a way for a simple controller to talk to SD? By the way, Rasp-Pi and Arduino's look just as hard. First post. A wind turbine on my house would definitely get feedback from my neighbours in suburban Essex, UK! |

Hi Phil, this is what you can do with a Micromite (MM2) and a SD card. For more more useful informations, please read Peters (matherp) profil. The "bigger" MMs do the SD card support much better! Best Regards and welcome to the TBS Michael causality ≠ correlation ≠ coincidence |

Thanks each. Looks good. Now the work starts! For info I survey the local creek and estuary for my yacht club. So log GPS and depth on a uSD card and process back home on a PC running Basic to make charts. I wanted to store tide data and do some sums while afloat. Maybe show corrected depth while surveying. Might be a long job. For interest here are links to the results so far. http://www.benfleetyachtclub.org/files/Moorings/Ray_Charts_Part1_Nov_2016.pdf http://www.benfleetyachtclub.org/files/Moorings/Ray_Charts_Part2_Nov_2016.pdf Thanks again. I would never have found those refs without you. |

Hello Phil. Nice project! matherp produced the gerbers for a navigation based MMeXtreme (I think White Wizzard on here might still have some - ww?) This would make an ideal base for your project as it has a slot for a readily available and cheap GPS module, SDCard slot and MMXbasic (so you can write to the card natively) and even VGA output so if you want to plug it into a small monitor on your boat - the world opens up with what you could do with this while afloat - even realtime charting? It has bags or memory and is easily fast enough. I got one a while back and it provides a punchy little computer board with everything onboard (mine was for off-roading). Coming from a PIC background, One thing to be mindful of - beware the MicroMite PICS are all 3.3V on their supply - there are 5V tolerant I/O pins on them (but not all)... So if you are looking to go to a MM in as a replacement/brain transplant you need to be aware. Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs. |

Yep - currently have 6 of these nice PCBs available. Can customise assembly if that helps - simply email me (although I am just catching up on the E100 BackOrders so may need a day or two before I can fully build one). WW |

That all looks a bit mega and extreme for me. The sort of project that never gets finished. Thank you guys but I think I was looking for the simplest MM that would read a uSD card. If you can store data simply and share it with a PC there are so many possibilities. I will keep looking. Thanks again. Phil. |

@Phil, maybe this is something useful for you (regarding data-logging on a cheap 8MB EEProm)? Michael causality ≠ correlation ≠ coincidence |

Wow! Impressive. Thanks. Every MM could have one. I need to get to know these - all new to me. Phil. |
