I've only used HC-12 modules so far and they work great However I now have a Pi Zero W which not only has WiFi but it also has Bluetooth 4.1 built into it Has anyone used or considered using Bluetooth instead of 433Mhz modules? The HC-06 module is pin compatable as is This one What's people's thoughts? I'm thinking about my outdoor weather station which at the moment using HC-12 drains the batteries quite quickly These modules use less power so the batteries "should" last longer |

You'd probably find the HC-06 range really limited. Have used them here to connect to my Spa initially; once I got past 10 outside it was game over & It wouldn't connect from outside to the lounge room which is about 5m thru a couple of walls. Cheers Phil. |

It would literally be going through the ceiling/attic to the weather station mounted outside I really like the idea of Bluetooth low power modules because they can be run on batteries for a long period of time I did experiment with solar panels charging batteries but we don't get enough sun in the winter here to make it work Which is why I'm now looking for really low power solutions |

Do both, low power modules and solar |

same here. I have an HC-06 on my garage controller, granted, it is behind a brick pillar but you have to walk up to the door and be no more that 6 or 7 feet to guarantee connection from a phone (where the app is). Once established, the link seems a bit more forgiving and so long as you don't go indoors or round the corner it seems to stay established to about 30 feet or so. Coverage inside the garage and to the rear is better even though there is a lot of metalwork inside. ![]() |

Phil, Have you used the SLEEP mode with the HC-12 and just waking it up long enough to send the data? This should make it it at least as miserly as the Bluetooth module? panky ... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it! |
