Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I had a hard drive failure, and as a result I lost all my programming I did with the Big Ben clock
I've been trying to make it again with a Picromite to make a simple analogue clock using the SSD1963_7 in Portrait mode.
but for the life of me I cannot get it going
I've been trying to use Peter's sample code here using BLIT
but my mind has completely gone stupidly blank
no matter what I do I cannot even get the hands drawn, let alone move.
I did manage to get the background picture off another post, so that's a bonus
Moral of the story - always have backups on more than one drive.
I think it's time I admitted to myself my memory problems are making it impossible to do this any more.

"do not go gently into that good night"

your memory problems are probably not as bad as you think in this case.

Notwithstanding you being very naughty in not having backups (especially when there has been a recent thread with several excellent options explored), you don't remember because you didn't think you'd have to - it was on disk. Which of us keeps reams of code in their head?

Just recover what you can and go from there. Keep kicking and screaming all the way in... full throttle and flat taps!Edited by CaptainBoing 2019-02-17

The recent work you have posted on the weather station shows clearly this is not the case.

There is nothing worse than trying to replicate previous work. The act of losing it creates a mental block which makes trying to do it again much harder - for me at least.

All my development work is on a drive which is synchronised to Dropbox, that way if I lose something or a development goes down a blind alley I can rewind easily as Dropbox keeps historical versions

Can you not recover the code from the micromite with LIST?

I know there will be a lot of ancillary stuff lost on the PC. Is there up-to-date code that has been posted on the forum?

(The picromite on pi zero w is a great, small, powerful, inexpensive, easy platform to work on--but it also is susceptible to crashes of the SD card, especially with abrupt power losses--so make sure you have backups there as well. I use WINSCP to copy everything needed from PC to pi and back (and then to USB drive backups).)

Don't give up. Your posts show struggles, but ultimately brilliant implementations of your ideas.

It happened to me more than once to lose data from a disk.
Is not beautiful.
After the blow, I'm sure you'll be able to rebuild better than before.
Regarding the memory, I happen to look for a lighter for minutes and do not remember to have it already 'in hand, you see .....

I've found a copy of the Big Ben clock that works on an E100 but it won't work with the Picromite because it uses CFunctions to do the triangles for the clock

I know I'm asking for a lot but is anyone able to "convert" it so it will work on the Picromite using the BLIT command instead of the CFunctions?

I cannot get my head round how I got it working in the first place and it would take me weeks to learn how to do it again

I've cut the code so it's only the clock bit and not the complete weather station as this is all I want - to make a large clock using the SSD1963 7 inch in Portrait mode and at a later stage I'll add day and date underneath the clock

Lew - NEVER GIVE UP!

A lot of us (read, MOST) have been down this path due to many various circumstances. I'm a bit of a fatalist here - the reason this happened was because there must have been a better way to do it!

Regarding memory blocks - whenever you stop searching for something you will usually find it. (Follow the many sayings of that Irish fella Mr.Murphy).

If you find you're having a memory block just put it aside & do something else for a while (sleep on it works well) - it's amazing how clear the mind is next time you come back to it.

But ALWAYS HAVE MORE THAN 1 COPY OF SOMETHING! Electronics is like a light bulb - we know it will eventually fail, & Murphy will ensure that it's always at the most inopportune time. Dropbox is a good solution, as is a USB hard drive or memory stick.

So glad Peter has come to the rescue though.

one piece of advice:

if you get stuck, walk away and take a break. do something trivial like washing the dishes, play a game of patience, or go for a drive or a walk. these things place your mind in a state where it can 'inadvertently' discover solutions.

cheers,
rob :-)

Peter if you see this have you any idea why the second hand always skips the 12 position?
It was skipping a second a couple of random times a minute and I figured it was down to the pause 1000 so I got rid of that and now it's really smooth other than when it reaches 12
it always skips 12
any ideas why?
I also changed the picture, it looks much better in White

Hi all,
I am trying to get a clock working on an SSD1963 display using the blit command
ref matherp
https://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ViewTopic.php?TID=11142&PID=130907#130907#130912

I get a "Not enough memory" error at line 12, creating a buff(480*480*3/8-1).

I do realise his code was intended for a Pi, but I thought it should work on E100

You are asking for a buffer of 82,800 integers = 662,400 bytes = 6 * total MM+ memory

Thankyou Peter,

I thought the buffer looked big, silly me it's been awhile, not thinking straight

Hi,

Still messing around with lew247's weather station code, I am using E100 MM+ and trying to get the clock working.

I have had it working for a while but now I am getting :-
"CPU exception #7 (bus error on load or store)
In CFunction triangles at address 0x09B4
Processor restarted"

Now I can't get rid of this, tried re-flashing PIC32, another E100, resets etc, nothing seems to work!!!!

What am I doing wrong????

PS. this is why I started new topic about blit usage.

The newest MM code doesn't require Cfunctions for the triangles
here's code for just a clock with a simple weather readout as well using Matherps code for the hands

Hi lew247,

thanks for coming in on this one. the code you have posted I believe wil only work on a pi,
I am trying to use an E100 MM+ which has a lot less memory.
There is rather a LARGE buffer, and references to autorefresh an refresh which I take to be only PI commands. I don't know if this can be made to work on a MM+ E100.
I've never used the BLIT commands before so I am a newbe with its usage.

ps did you redo the weather station to use blit , and did you ever get error I have with triangles??

Maybe they are E=Ink display commands.
