Hi everyone, Is the original Maximite dead? I can't seem to locate the kit or enclosure anywhere for the original Maximite? I see Dontronics is defunct along with MicroZed Computers as listed in the article on the Backshed. I take it the colour version is the default standard Maximite now?

I'm not sure dead is the right word. The kit manufacturers have stopped making kits but you can easily get the PCB made and assemble your own - all the parts are readily available.

Fully assembled the CGMMSTICK1 from CircuitGizmos is a great Maximite compatible board which along with the CGVGAKBD1 makes a full monochrome Maximite in a different form factor. And there is the DuinoMite-Mini which is a good alternative.

But yes, you can generally consider that the original Maximite was superseded by the Colour Maximite.Edited by Geoffg 2019-07-11

Hi Geoff, I'm glad to see your still out and about here on the backshed. I remember reading about the maximite when it was first in development. I always thought it would be a cool way to have some logging of power produced from our RE power systems.

I guess no many are interested in B&W these days. Colour is good too!

The original b/w maximite got me back into electronics and programming.
When the colour maximite came along I converted my b/w one to colour. I built mine on a UBW32 and still use it to this day.
Geoff gave us a great toy to play with

In my case, the TFT Maximite - (partly) a german project with 5" TFT display (color) for about 89€ - got me back into electronics and programming.
I don't know if they are shipping to US.

Altronics is still selling the Mini Maximite kit link. You could use this to build an original Maximite.

However in the US, the options suggested by Geoff would probably be a better choice.

@Ironmaiden,

I have three types of Maximite PCBs available but they are not all listed on website:

- The original mono Maximite
- The mini Maximite
- The Colour Maximite

The Colour one is supplied as a kit. The other two I am actually yet to finish building myself but I am sure I could put a kit together for anyone interested.
And if you are not happy soldering SMD components then I can do this too.
