Ah yes.. I guess this is a program embedded in a IBM job run set ? Not sure what language (edit - early fortran? the double-equals assignments have me puzzled)...any comments welcome ![]() Edited 2020-01-25 09:30 by zeitfest |

Not FORTRAN. More like an ALGOL (clue is PROCEDURE) but it's badly structured and so on. Maybe the very earliest, was it Algol 58? A dinosaur, at any rate or from their time! (Used to call the era of mainframes the time of the dinosaurs.) John |

I did wonder about algol, because of the double-equals assignment symbol, but the earliest algol reference I had was about algol-60, now i see there was a committee spec report 1958 as you suggest ! The dawn of 2gls.. Squinting more at it, there is a date 1958 on it and also "IITRAN" , as it turns out IITRAN was an IT system in Illinois not fortran but based on it. It was created to be more user-friendly than the ibm360 standard usage at the time. It's the earliest printout I have seen. Not sure about the structure, maybe it was to cut processing time given the expense. Compile time is listed as 2.8 seconds ! Makes me miss the air conditioning I am tempted to type it in and try to run it . (ed - ie the equivalent) Edited 2020-01-27 07:28 by zeitfest |

Congratulations Zeitfest, You have found some ancient Babylonian script depicting flying machines and alien implanting of the human race. Well that’s what it looks like to me. Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |
