Quite a while ago a device was discussed here made by Microchip that is a USB to serial converter. It actually consisted of a 16F1455 uP programmed at the factory to perfom that specialized USB function; it couldn't be unprogrammed. Could someone tell me the Microchip part number? Not having much luck navigating the Microchip website; certainly haven't been able to find this particular part. Hank Edited 2020-03-11 14:06 by HankR |

Hi HankR, Not sure about a PIC16F1455 actually provided by Microchip pre-loaded but there is a kit for a PIC16F1455 called the Microbridge that is a small USB to Serial adaptor. It was developed by Geoff and featured in the May 17 edition of Silicon Chip magazine. One of it's great benefits is that it can also be used to program a Micromite - Graham Rixon (Grogster on the forum) can provide more info on how this is done but it is also covered in detail in the Silicon Chip article. You can buy copies of the article, the blank board,as well as the pre-programmed PIC16F1455 from Silicon Chip at www.siliconchip.com.au panky ... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it! |

The chip can also be bought through CircuitGizmos: http://circuitgizmos.com/gizmo-store/USB-to-serial-Pic32prog-programmer-interface-p69742387 Do you need it in a DIP package or SMT? I can send either. Robert Rosee created the programming IDE wrapper for the chip. matherp compiled the hex file, I believe. Micromites and Maximites! - Beginning Maximite |

Thank you Peter. That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks also to the other posters for the extra information about the 1455 which is of some interest to me for sure, but the 2221 specifically is for others to order by the hundreds for a DIY amateur radio project. A PCB was designed that used a FTDI module and there is now a global shortage of those modules. A new PCB for the project will design out the module and design in the 2221. |
