Hi, I am sure this probably has been covered, I have recently gone over to using Parallels with my Mac as the USB handling seems to WORK. I am having a problem with MMedit, I can't load or save files as I get some sort of string error. What do I have to alter in MMedit's setup to get out of this. Trevor |

Never had a MAC so I am not much help. What version of MMEdit? By "USB handling seems to work" does that mean that the terminal works? Can you be more helpful with "as I get some sort of string error." "Is this to do with network folders? the log shows mac folders NOT windows folders" Give me an example. Can you load files directly from the edit window using load and run or from the terminal using "Load"? Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

Hi Jim, I am using V4.0.0. What I mean with the USB thing, Parallel's seems to better at handling the USB ports, I was using VirtualBox before and found the usb ports didn't seem to be handled very well as I could never connect to anything USB. The error message I get with either load or save is "0 String can't hold String". Here is the first few lines of the Configuration Report:- [ 12:05:06 Mar 29, 2020 OS Ver: 6.01 MM Edit Version: V 4.0.0 2020118131330 Build Date: 18-Jan-2020 13:13:30 UTC Program folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCom\MMedit Data folder: C:\Users\trevor\AppData\Local\CCom\MMedit locate.inf: DocsDir$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents mainWinLoc$ = 1059 1291 6 11 80 configWinLoc$ = 479 411 478 272 chatWinLoc$ = 765 696 1071 9 1 1 CapDir$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents fileWinLoc$ = 536 599 282 199 DocsDir$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents includeDir$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents MMBdosEXE$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents HintWinLoc$ = 688 300 602 160 ReportWinLoc$ = 690 499 584 39 Options$ = 1001111001210000000000000000000 FindWinLoc$ = 245 183 400 277 0 0 externalEXE$ = autoBackup$ = ] "Load and Run" works perfectly once I have code file in MMedit, which I can do thro' copy and paste from Notepad. How can I change the paths of the MMbasic data files, If that is what is wrong??? Trevor |

It is probably the UNC file names that are causing the problem. Instead of "DocsDir$ = \\Mac\Home\Documents", can you map the network drive to a drive letter. eg "DocsDir$ = Z:\Home\Documents" Alternatively, copy the files to a place within the windows file structure. Hi Jim, Thanks for your reply, is there away to set up the data directories when MMedit is setup as the config report does't have a save (I guess MMedit doesn't read this file anyway, only generates it)?? Have tried setting mac directories to windows directories using file manager's Map network dirs, but didn't help. Trevor |

The config report is just that. A report. Most of the settings are remembered from the last use rather than a configuration option. You could try deleting the locate.inf file from the data folder. Maybe delete all the *.inf files. Do this with MMEdit shut down and they will be recreated next startup. VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

Hi Jim, I finally fixed the problem, by disconnecting all references in windows with the Mac in Parallels, ie running windows on its own NO sharing, and re-installed MMedit. Now running MMedit the Config Report now shows C:/users etc, etc as folders. None of the other things suggested worked, but thanks anyway. Trevor. |
