Hi guys At this point I have assembled three CMM2 boards. All of them works perfectly, except for the SD card reader. I have tried several different SD cards, or course. At this point I am trying to convince myself that I am wasting my time. I really should pull from the CMM2-project, since I cannot get it to work. At an earlier time I "designed" a CMM1 pcb, with another kind of SD card module - that works perfectly. There is really no point to this post, other than dispair over the difficulty. I have been messing with electronics in my spare time for close to 20 years, but I think it is time to move on to programming-only. I must make a decision soon Thanks for your time. |

I hear a high level of frustration... however, things always look better in the cool light of a new day. There cannot be that much wrong with soldering an SD card socket. Try again after a break. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

In the PCB pictured without the Waveshare you are missing the 2R2 resistor that powers the SDcard. Won't work without that! |

Also, if after fitting that resistor it still plays up, check your voltages. Measure between the USB-B case (-ve) and the 5VIN and 3.3V pins (+ve) on the Waveshare. Should read around 5v or a tad over, and 3.3v. Then try with a different USB-A to USB-B cable. Also some early firmware versions dont like a blank formatted SD card, now fixed in the latest firmware. Hope that helps. |

Hi guys matherp, I have tried several "combinations" back and forth - Upon using solder wick on the SD card solder pads and including/resoldering the 2.2 ohm resistor I got two of the boards working! I am very happy that I didn't quit. Natural born quitter . |

Well done I discovered that dabbing some liquid flux onto the solder braid using a "flux pen" vastly improved the efficiency of the braid to wick up excess solder ... might help you with the third board |

Heck, at first glance I read; STD problems, should I pull out. |

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!! (roll on the floor, laughing my ass off) Nice one, my son!!!! I have built 100+ units now, selling all over the world, and NOT ONE of them failed the SD card test. When I have completed a unit, it is tested for various core functions, one of which being the SD card. ALL of them have worked, so I am pretty sure that the SD-card 'Stack' in the firmware is pretty rock-solid. ![]() Having said that, NOT ALL SD CARDS ARE MADE EQUAL! If one won't work, try a few others, or set the SD card operation to conservative. I think that 'Conservative' SD card operation is default from one of the latest firmwares.... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |
