Hello Maximites!

I just purchased a CMM1 and am currently waiting for a PS/2 KB to arrive and so I could use some help getting a connection though my Win 10 PC to work.

I followed the directions to install the Silicon Chip USB Serial Driver, but after several attempts I couldn’t get Windows 10 to install it. It seems that driver is for Windows up to 8.

I’m powering the CMM1 with a USB b cable connected to the PC.

Any suggests on how to correct what I’m doing wrong would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Windows 10 doesn't need any driver to be supplied.
The standard Windows drivers work out of the box.

Thanks TassyJim! I shall go back to not RTFM :)

Is Teraterm still the preferred way to connect?

TeraTerm is my preferred terminal program but it depends on what you are doing.

(I do use MMEdit for most things)

Just looking to learn programming for now. I'll hook it up directly to a KB/monitor at some point.

I was able to connect through TeraTerm, but all I see is a flashing cursor. You might be able to tell I'm a novice when it comes to these small computers :)

Start with the quick start tutorial in the CMM2 manual.

Without a monitor your can't see any of the graphics but there are plenty of things to play with using a terminal.

Hi TassyJim,

He is using a CMM1 (one...the old one).

@Krall,

The flashing cursor in Teraterm could also mean it is not yet connected.
Did you select a COM port in teraterm setup/serial port menu, baudrate 38400 ?
In my case it is COM25, but it will be different for your PC. The pull-down menu will show your options.

If you do, you will see a startup screen of the maximite

Now you can type in teraterm, and the CMM1 will act as if you type on a keyboard. Only difference is that this is a text based terminal. You cannot do graphics.

Success

Hello Volhout,

Thanks for clearing that up! I set those parameters from Device Manager within Win10. I was not aware it also had to be done within TeraTerm. Thank you for the screen shots, those are very helpful! I’ll try to connect again later.

Thanks. I missed that.

The quick start tutorial for the cMM2 is still a good place to start. I am not sure when that section got added to the manuals but the first part is still OK on the cMM1.

Thanks again guys!

I got it working...sort of. Can see the start screen and execute commands, but it's slow. I'll have to try another USB cable or port.
