Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi,
My F4 arrived two days ago and it worked almost straight out of the box.
("Almost" because when I plugged it in to a USB port it appeared on Device Manager as a memory device not as a COM port (ie how to talk to it?) - but after I jumpered B0 and flashed it with the STM app, and changed the MMEdit settings it worked like a charm).
Many thanks to Geoff, Peter and Phil - and the many testers and users on TBS.

I am in awe.

One question - (and I think I know the answer) is it remotely possible to use an ILI9488 display on the F4 (apart from the obvious connector difference)?
(I have several 3.5" 9488s which are a good physical size and resolution).

If not I will lash out and get either 9341 or 1963s.

Cheers,

Andrew
(The SD isn't working yet but I need to work through the discussion on TBS.)

Peter Mather had written a driver for the ILI9488 for the MM2 and MM+ as published here.

However, this hasn't made it to the F4. I had gotten an SPI ILI9341 working on the F4, and tried replacing it with an ILI9488, but got this:

> option lcdpanel disable
> option lcdpanel ili9488, LANDSCAPE, PD6, PE0, PC4
Error : Invalid display type

It had looked to me like a good option and good value for the F4 with OPTION LCDPANEL CONSOLE for a 480x320 pixel, 80x40ish character editor--but Peter says the SPI LCDs are too slow for OPTION LCDPANEL CONSOLE.

The 32-pin 16-bit ILI9341 is a good fit for the F4, but better appears to be the OTM8009A 800*480 which requires a 32 to 34-pin adapter. My OTM8009A has not yet arrived. I have received from JLCPCB a 32 to 34-pin adapter PCB which I'm eager to test.

Is it "remotely possible" to use the ILI9488? From disco4now: Again to confirm that the ARMMITE F4 does support user defined LCDPanels written in MMBasic

G'day all,
In my thanking of people above I'd meant to include Gerry (discofornow) for his wonderful work on the F4 Manual - sorry to leave you out.
(Phil you still get my thanks for whatever you have done).
My only defence is my senility (I do qualify for the phase 1b COVID jab - an Australian thing).

I understand from lizby's note above that F4 use of 9488 displays is not likely because they are too slow - I'll get F4 compatibly one(s).

Cheers,

Andrew
