Hi All,

For years now I have been using RS for most of my small order 'must haves' and now I found that unless you order $70ex GST they will charge $12.95 for shipping.
They used to be free for online orders..

Coupling with the fact that many items are packaged in minimum order of 5 or more then they have priced themselves out of competition. I think I will be using Element 14 a lot more now.. e14 is free shipping over $50 and usually can order qty 1 and often cheaper per unit.

Just thought I would let you all know of this change, it must be recent as I last ordered sometime back January (I think) ..

What a pity, I have used them for many years and even living 2,500Km away still had my order within a few days, by courier free of charge. I'm with you Mick, no longer worth it.

Indeed they changed this a month or so ago without warning, have now moved all my orders now to element14 as usually they are cheaper anyway but quite often have items on very delayed back-order.

Seems they only want the big orders now and to hell with smaller end users.

I do nearly all my orders now through Digikey. They have an Australian web site, and can do guest checkout with PayPal. I have found their response times truly extraordinary! It is usually four working days delivery, sometimes five. From the US! I can't get a parcel from the next closest capital city in that time with Australia Post. Sometimes I've had to wait up to a month (they'd go out if they didn't hold a monopoly).

If Digikey don't have (rare) I will turn to Mouser (delivery good, but not quite as good), RS as a fallback for even harder to find things (they have a good tool & mechanical range).

I have had nothing but grief from Farnell. Why the F did they change it to Element 14? At least Farnell was unique and did not bring up all sorts of stupid links when searching! After many episodes of poor service I finally gave then the shove when an item they listed as "in stock" (OS, so 7 days anyway - slower than Digikey or Mouser) was not in stock at all, and after a fortnight of waiting I complained. ONLY THEN did they bother to tell me it was out of stock and two months away!

And yes, they had my email address.

In the last four years (since that episode) I have only ordered ONE part from them because no-one else had it.
