Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Just wondering - what's particularly good about it compared to e.g. the Waveshare (STM32H743) module used for the CMM2?

Also, that Arduino one's not exactly cheap!

The Waveshare module ain't actually cheap and there are no local stockists.

Farnell are showing 500+ of this Arduino in stock, here in the UK.

Having said that, I focus more on the TCO (total cost of ownership) and by the time BT/WiFi have been tacked-on to the Waveshare(?)

TBH, though I don't see myself using it as I can't imagine anything competing with a Parallax P2 commanded by a Picomite (OK I still need to tack-on the wireless stuff).

The Arduino has 10 PWMs but apparently only 4 quadrature encoder interfaces.
On the P2, I am running 12 PWMs and 12 quadrature encoders (12 CNC axes). Who has ever heard of this on a single chip?

What I am doing with the P2 right now is insane and I don't even know what I'm doing because there is next-to-no documentation yet

Musicians know it as GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). We MCU geeks suffer from the same darned thing

Especially when Geoff and Pete make them usable by mere mortals.

IT'S NOT AN ARDUINO

It is a top tier STM32 massively compromised by using it with the worst IDE available in the known universe. Much better for easy programming is MBed and to get the most out of the chip a real IDE like STM32CubeIDE or Keil.

It is also very expensive compared to the Nucleo-H745/H755 if you want to get to grips with the dual core H7s

Whoa...I ain't about to desert my beloved BASIC

I fully expect it to be supported by B4R (gorgeous IDE) before I even consider it.

B4R puts a civilized BASIC wrapper on those libraries (unless I misunderstood).

It's about 1/3 of the price.

I don't care about local. Fine if you do, though, but 3 times the price!

My base selling price for a MCU+Tablet+Miscellaneous buffer components is GBP 17,500 and I can always stick an extra 100 quid on there without a complaint.
