Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi, I have recently updated my PC to a Win 10 64-bit machine, but would like to work on some old assembly code projects originally made on my old XP 32-bit wonder, which ran Microchip's old MPLAB v8.91 software.
I would very much like to use the old MPLAB software, rather than convert the projects to new new ones using the current MPLAB X v6.00 software.
Before seeking out the old MPLAB version for download, please can you advise me if this will be practical on my new machine. I gather there is a "compatibility mode" requirement here, but know nothing of its capabilities !

If you assemble 32-bit code, it should work. Win 10 64-bit and Win 11 (there is no 32-bit Win 11) won't run 16-bit software.

Haven't tried using it in anger recently but MPLAB 8.92 opens fine on W11. No special mode needed. Edited 2022-07-27 07:45 by matherp

Hi toml and Peter, Thanks for your replies. Encouraged by your posts I have downloaded and successfully installed MPLAB v8.91, and loaded and assembled one of my simple old projects with almost no pain at all! That's amazing and not really what I was expecting!
The application went into the "(X86)" program files folder as expected - presumably for 32-bit programs. I have 2 drives on this machine, a C: - SSD, and a conventional D: - HDD. I got a moan from MPLAB because it couldn't find the old C: files to delete before assembly - I can live with that!
Now to try a more complex project - which draws code from my library.
