Google didnt write ChromeOS. ChromeOS is linux under the hood. Just access to linux is blocked. So there is no need to actually install linux, you metely take away the block. But lld Chromebooks will have old linux when not propperly updated. And ChromeOS is a stripped linux version. Not every feature default in thecdebians and ubuntus is available.
