Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi, just posting experience. Years ago I cloned the win drive to another using free software. maybe a hdd to ssd or to use a larger drive.
The free cloning software is not free anymore :(
but I found "Disk Genius", https://www.diskgenius.com/free.php
I just used it on 2 win 11 pcs to clone from 120G ssd to 240G ssd.
It's so easy to use. get it while it's still free and keep the install.

Thanks! I generally use either EaseUS or gparted, depending on which OS I'm in. But this could turn out to be handy for friends who need to do a drive of theirs.

I should have said the drive to clone to is connected via sata to usb connector.
then swap the drives. ie open the case and change drive or swap the sata leads and hot glue the replacement ssd. check out free cloning software to see why I'm happy with disk genius... not paywalled.

I'm talking about free cloning software. there's not much left. bet this will be not free soon. spent some time trying free software to find it's not a free standard version but just a promo that after setting everything up to clone just offers, in a loop. saving you the same bother recommending disk genius while still free.
there's an open source cloner but it's linux file system so not as easy as disk genius.

For the record, if one of the drives (either the source or destination) is a Western Digital, then there's a free version of Acronis that works well.

yes, drive makes have their own clone software but dunno if kingston to another make for instance .

this is not any use

Acronis True Image for Western Digital can backup and restore files, folders, full disk images. It can be used to clone drives.

IMPORTANT:
ARM processor is NOT supported.
Cloning to external USB drives cannot be done.
A Western Digital drive must be used to install.

my post about disk genius was it's tidy and works any drive. get em while they're hot.
