Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Celeron
my point was existing win 10 users when it expires.
I said for months get ms win 11 iso and now ms let it run on pc's that don't meet their spec. but ms are gits who can change the game any time, like change your pass word every month, is that really ms?
I'm actually happy with win 11. aero tweaked to be like win 10...sad?

I think I'll be even happier with Mint and the Mate desktop. It's very nice indeed now. Cinnamon would be even nicer but it might be a bit heavy on resources on these little fanless boxes.
Cinnamon vs Mate

And Microsoft may well disappear into the distance as I just use my Win 11 box for stuff that won't run on Linux. I used to have problems with nanoCAD just closing with no error message under Wine but it might be ok now.

Finally I switched form Ubuntu to Linux Mint (LMDE6) on my main computer, feels better.

I use no social media like X, Instagram, Youtube, Whatsapp, Mastodon, de-Googled myself as much as I can. So I live a very quiet life.

Quality time with my wife and projects.

I've been looking at MX linux. I might give that a try instead of Mint. Debian based rather than Ubuntu. Its supposed to be very stable (and doesn't run systemd by default, which makes a change). I'm currently trying to decide between the XFCE and KDE desktops while I look for another USB stick. :)

I use Linux AntiX distro on my very old HP Compaq nv6120. (2007)

antiX is a fast, lightweight and easy to install systemd-free linux live CD distribution based on Debian Stable for Intel-AMD x86 compatible systems

I have MX running now, with the KDE desktop. Very nice indeed, even running from USB on a little fanless machine. A very good FAQ and excellent manual ready on the desktop. I went for KDE just to see if it crippled the machine! It seems ok. I rarely run with more than a couple of browser windows so it might be fine.

I believe you can get AntiX c/w desktop to run with as little as 1GB of RAM, but 2GB is much better. :)
