I found a hdmi to avi converter and works with pico only hdmi better picture, same 8" monitor... I doubt this is of use.. who uses avi?

It's not AVI, it's AV (Analogue Video) or, more accurately, CVBS (Composite Video Baseband Signal), which is the "yellow plug" video.
AVI is a file format for video files. Composite video combines the video and synch signals into a single signal. Quality often tends to be a bit rough, some versions are mono only and you can't get high resolutions. Virtually all of the old home computers used to use it because it's relatively easy to generate (especially in mono) but it was often fed into a RF modulator so that it could be fed into the aerial socket of a TV.

If you are converting from HDMI at anything above 320x240 to CVBS there's probably a lot of resolution being sacrificed. Even at 640x480 there's probably some bad shimmer and smearing of text.

I have a CV and RGB to VGA converter somewhere...
